Ok so I have been thinking long and hard about getting my own truck its been almost a year now since I've been on here so here is what I'm thinking for now. Sloan's implement leases trucks for 5 year term and at the end of the 5th year you make your last payment which is the gallon payment. Now here is the kicker for me I can't decide to either pull a Hopper from grain germ and meal or get a dump to haul the same but also haul rock lime dirt and fertilizer for local plants. With that being said I know I can make a decent living either way I go with trailer wise. I am a green horn to all this but I determined to get my own truck I got family behind me and some talking crap which I figured that so that makes me want it more. I know alot of guys will put negative post on here to turn me away would please don't I'm just looking for help here. Now my truck choices are a 379 or a kW t800 which of the two would be best for what I want to do I'm thinking the Pete but also found some low mile Mack's that are cheap
hopper bottoms or dump wagon

If u don't want to use pto hydraulics, use hopper bottom.
-
Well I was just told a wet kit will weigh me dwn 4000 to 5000 pounds
-
You decide. Many farmers and grain hauling industries prefer hopper bottoms.

Well I was thinking of just getting my truck and renting a trailer with a company the Guy I'm gonna lease on to with and he uses hoppers but said he can get me whatever I wanted but I thought about getting my whole set up on my own in case of a fall out with him

Im confused, Sloan is a Deere dealer right?
Dump trailers give you a few more options on what you can haul but a hopper is going to allow you to net more because your tare weight will be lower. Even when compared against a frameless dump trailer. But then a hopper could give you fits if you get a load stuck in it like mid summer when its hot and humid out.
Some feed places may not be thrilled about you hauling feed products right after you've hauled a load of crusher or potash/fertilizer. Most will likely let you go with a good clean sweep out, but others may want a wash out ticket and that could be time consuming if there's not one near by and you lose a load.... -
Hopper gives more load capacity than dump trailer.

Best driving job I ever had was end dumping. ..but we just did gravel and sand. .
Hardest driving job I ever had. . Hoppers, product would get hung up. . Vibrators wouldn't knock it loose and we would have to beat on the rails with dead blow hammers for hours to get the product to drop.
So I thought I'd be smart. . Hauled wet DDG in end dumps. .Ha! That stuff would stick, half the product would dump and the other half would sit in the trailer..Had to BOUNCE the trailer while all the way up. . Lucky I never laid one on its side.
Whatever you decide.. I'd go with the Pete. -
Hopper, u just need to crank it to open the bottom doors. With dump, u use hydraulic to lift the trailer.

Yes but they have a lease company for trucks and AG equipment
