    1. I spend most of my working hours seated in a comfortable chair, listening to an audio book, snacks and beverages nearby, watching the scenery go by.

    2. I at least feel like I am working independently much of the time. I am responsible to problem-solve and get the job done so I get the satisfaction of knowing I overcome all obstacles and did it. Or to put it another way, there is very little committee work involved.

    3. I meet enough mean, angry, hateful people to be spiritually challenged...enough genuinely kind, helpful people to be encouraged.

    4. I enjoy the humor, courtesy and fellowship of my fellow drivers. We have sort of a club out here.

    5. When I get my paycheck, I like the fact that I have no doubt that I have earned every penny of it.

    6. After I sleep in a truck all week the normal pleasures of home and a loving companion seem like incomparable luxuries.

P.S. I could write as much on what I DETEST about being a truck driver, but in the spirit of the holidays I am sticking with the positive. Maybe you could add a few points to the list.

It's so easy to get down and frustrated out here. Everything you stated is the truth. I'm going to save this to help remind me at times how life could always be worse than it is. Thanks!

I won't go into the negative on my end either, like internet shoppers who live in inaccessible locations.

But I like the mostly being by myself since I don't play to well with others.

Audiobook while you are driving? I am sure you meant while parked...

Why would you listen to an audiobook while parked?
They are great to listen to while driving. That's the idea, isn't it?

OTR is good for loners, or anti-socials, who don't like a lot of human inter-action.

I will admit that when dispatch wasn't on my case and I was out there doing my thing life wasn't too bad.....

Oh, god, and you meet lots of those on the road. The ones that tell you their life story and tell you how much they hate their wifes LMAO

The ones that also tell you their made up DOT stories and other BS they have been cooking in their mind for the last 7 weeks stuck in the sleeper and/or the "driver's lounge".
