But a pretty accurate description of how it feels!

I am pretty sure that is just a matter of changing the option parameters. Something a technician can do in a few minutes. My Cummins-powered Prostar didn't do it, my Maxx-force-powered one does.

Unfortunately even if he gets the programming straightened out it doesn't help a whole lot. Unless you get the RPMs way up.

I know, I think Fred Flintstone shoe brakes would do a better job.

LV GN: I let the RPMS get up to 1900 before l gave up. Higher than that even?
I did determine shifting needs higher RPMs 16-17 instead of 15.
One thing the engine brake IS good at is grinding gears-the RPMs drop like a rock while floating!

they say 2100 in The owners manual but 1900 is as high as I go. I also shift at 1700 going up the hills with my 13 spd and the 47,000 lb monster in my smooth bore tanker.

For engine braking I take it up to max RPMS. For hauling, though, the MaxxForce 13 is a low-RPM motor; it makes peak torque at 1,000 RPM. I regularly haul loads at 140,000 lbs and I progressive shift starting out at 1,000-1,050. I don't get above 1,500 until I am in the top 2 gears on an 18-speed. Obviously more significant hills and soft ground will require higher shift points, but those work well for every day driving.

I noticed when hauling 117,000 all the time, I had less EGR issues than I do hauling a single trailer

Now that the N13 is out maxxforce looks to be getting some positive traction with its SCR aftertreatment system
