    Going from Local gravel haul to regional long haul(Staying generally in Northern Ontario). Now I have been around most places that I'll be travelling to in the past in tow trucks from a few years ago but this time will be with a 4 axle flat bed rig. Most of the customers I will be going to will be regulars but I would still like a good atlas for my area just in case of road closures or a new customer once in awhile. What are the better ones out there?

    Don't think I would really benefit from a trucker GPS..but give me your input on them!

    I don't know if Ontario has the maps with everything, we call them a gazetteer, DeLorme prints them for the individual states, every road is on those. The Rand McNally Truck Atlases are considered the best for OTR.

    I have an older Rand McNally atlas , but i use https://maps.google.ca/maps?ct=reset&tab=ll Google maps on the phone; they are amazing , satellite images, street view photos taken from most roads in North America, easy to find any place; This smart phones and wide wireless coverage can save lives on the road, we are out in the weather all the time; Sunday May 22 / 2011 i was driving on I-44 through Joplin ,Mo when the tornado destroyed the town, thx to internet weather apps i parked just in time; I don't know how the internet coverage works in Northern Ontario, i check this sites and weather apps before i hit the road, for weather, traffic and road conditions, especially now in winter time;

    I have a rand McNally gps (520 model) a atlas (latest version out) and I also have 5 navigation apps on my phone I use to figure out what course to take. Google maps with satellite view is extremely useful. I also have apple maps (different satellite views sometimes), scout (use for traffic problems), inrix (to check traffic conditions, and waze. The combination of all them and I have a grand'ol time out here.

    Thanks guys. Couldn't find a small version of Rand McNally so picked up a small(8x11''?) Ontario map book. It will get me started until I find I need something more specific. Hopefully it doesn't send me in the wrong direction haha!

    LOL very true! My concern is not generally how to get to said towns, but how to find my way around them.. Like I mentioned in the first post, I've been to most places before with a job I had a few years ago but places like SSM or Timmins..I don't remember them too much so I'd rather not have to pull over for directions every load lol.

    Thanks guys!
