I had something like this several years ago which was for making 'McMuffins' (toaster w/mini fry pan for egg and steamer for sausage patties)

I've been following this thread for a while now, and this may be the place to post my idea. Maybe it could help others or give an even better idea to someone. Knowing myself, and thinking through my plan to go OTR; there were a couple things that I knew I needed to overcome in order enjoy my next career as an OTR.

Cooking. I'm not a fancy cook, but I do usually cook all my own meals and would prefer to continue doing this. I've decided to go with a longer wheelbase truck, but stick with an average sleeper (72"). I will have an 18" deep cabinet (headache rack) custom built. The top of the cabinet will fold down and be suspended as a countertop giving full access to the cabinets behind. This is where I'll keep my appliances and then pull them out to cook. I'm thinking I can do most everything with a bbq, wok, toaster oven, and campstove. I'll have a comfortable place to cook and I won't have any smells making their home inside the truck. This may seem overkill, as I have not seen anyone post something similar. I just know that everything microwaved wouldn't work for me as I'm going to be full time. Anyone seen or thought of something like this?

This is just theory at this point - I'm a planner. I also know that I shouldn't order a truck right off the bat, but rather drive for someone else for a while first.

Sounds like that area would be outside... That would be fine for spring, summer, fall (and we have with our propane BBQ)... But blizzard at -37* ? I'll take our crock pot and lunch box cooker thank you :)

Yes, outside on an oversized catwalk. In regards to the cold, remember, I'll be a new driver. I will tell my dispatcher I won't roll to to certain states. I sure as hell won't go where it's -37.

    Seriously though.

As much as I've been impressed with what folks are cooking in crockpots, don't you feel you're missing a few "tools"? Or are you able to do everything you'd like in terms of meals?

I would love more play toys, but running team, and not stopping for that 10hr stretch makes playing with hot stuff more interesting! I do the frying, grilling and charring when I get to the house (luckily for us that's weekly) and stick to SAFE cooking while the wheels are rolling :)
