How many pieces? Six or seven would be the 8' tall 6300 pound rolls which I refuse to haul. I've seen too many laid over sticking out of the side of trailers due to nothing more than crappy road conditions causing an uncontrollable side sway. Those should be flatbed loads and not dry van held in place by nothing more than gravity and a friction pad. If you have 8 or 10 they might be six feet; more would be shorties.

I completely agree about not sealing loads going to tcall. I would like to see the capability to break any seals at the terminal to inspect the loads. I've picked up a few too many t-called loads that had shifted which usually becomes apparent on the first curve.

Headed east on I-70 toward Denver. Just west of Parachute, CO I heard a tire blow, but there wasn't enough room to pull over, so I slowed to 30 mph and put on the 4-ways, finally found an exit with still inadequate pull off but stopped long enough to confirm a trailer tire blew, throwing some tread but no big damage. I then limped another 3 miles to the rest stop (which has parking for exactly one truck and there was already a truck in that spot. Fortunately there was plenty of room in the car parking area that is well lit and relatively flat. Waiting on hold for On Road.... gotta love listening to the endless loop...

Hang in there RC, your rant is duly noted.... :D

Regarding the RRC, when I tested out to become solo at the end of June, noting that in orientation they said the RRC was a requirement, I asked about it and was told I had to view an online video, pass the test, then have a certificate printed out from Safety to "qualify" to purchase one. So I did all that, went to pick up my truck in Mira Loma, presented my certificate to Parts, and was told the RRC was discontinued!!!???

I later saw a RRC at another terminal, I think it might have been in Memphis but not sure. The contents of the RRC wasn't worth $80. It had one of the cheap air lines for inflating your tires, a few hand tools, but the bulk of the contents were light bulbs, fuses, and other stuff you normally get for free at any Parts department. I'm not sure it even had a pair of vice grips.

So, if there is a terminal noting you are required to buy one, then they are probably trying to get rid of them and figured intimidating drivers into buying one might work for the ignorant.

Well hello Frank. They have to be the 8 foot ones. Only 7 and weight is 41K. I took this because it got me home. Normally, I will not unless I am watching how loaded and I can secure some how. I know that it has been feeling a little hinky going down the road but have not felt the trailer shift any. I have had some shorty's that weigh a lot and only had about 7-8. Guess that I will find out tomorrow when I open the doors.

I have to admit, I have the RRK and it has saved me a lot of headaches. Remember, we have different trailers, different bulbs plus a lot of other nice junk, like connectors and tape and other tools. I would be willing to bet that other then the bulbs that yes you can get for free, if your where to price everything in the kits that are not free plus the air hose, it will be over $80. Just walk into a truck stop and price the air line and heavy duty air pressure gauge and let me know.

A b****ing driver is a happy driver, right? Lol. Grand scheme of things I'm happy to be back on the road but man this has been a frustrating month. I need some time out of the truck to recover and was really looking forward to that time starting tomorrow.

My issue with the RRK is being forced to buy it. I've got a nice tool box put together already that was based on a list given to me by my terminal at orientation with some of my own additions. I'm happy to carry that stuff but I since I already have it there is no reason for me to buy it from Swift. In concept it's a good idea but there shouldn't be a mandate to get this from the shop.

With the weather up in the NE right now, that is not a place that I would want to be.

You might of. I have been walking in and out since I got here. Laundry and such. Speaking of EGR, I think that I finally found out what is wrong with my truck. Needs ECM/EGR tune up. Course not at a shop unless it is IGH

actually think i walked by your truck. Unfortunately I have to get the work done nearby egr cooling tubes are blocked and was told not to try to drive it very far(could shutdown the engine), thankfully its still under warranty. Since I hit about 350k earlier this year starting to develop a few problems, so far all under warranty and all relating to the emission control systems.

Cummins just got done with my truck about 2-3 weeks ago, when they finally found the problem with the DEF/DPF issues. Oil leaking from under the lifters. A few days ago KW could not find a reason for the bad mpg. Told me go get it DYNO'd. Cummins also told me that if they would have found this problem some time ago, then there was a good chance that I would have not needed the DPF filter baked at a tune of $800 and 2 filters replaced. I will be waiting for a decision from the Shop in IGH if what I am planning is correct or not. I am not going to keep this truck if the best that it is going to do is 6.5mpg. That is a extra almost $1300/mo in fuel
