I've done some internet research and come up with surprisingly little.

There's a You-Tube video of an ambush on a convoy. Also, I've read the first $80k are not taxable if you're overseas for more than 336 days. Salaries seem to start at $125k.

Also, as a trucker you're not "suppose" to arm yourself, although I can't see the harm in packing a little steel and some smoke.

KBR's web site has very little information.

    Any information is appreciated.

I was told from previous people that have been over there. You have to be there a full year to be tax free. Any day less then a year, it was on a percentage to be taxed. Dunno about carrying arms but if it was me. I'd #### sure be packing and not some little revolver either....

Spent 18 months in the Marines there and 11 months in Qatar Iraq hauling water and medical supplies last year with KBR. It is tough work with 12 on and 12 off 6 days a week, you sleep in tents made for 15. We were escorted by Military everywhere, never stopping even if something or someone got in front of you. Pay is good, but tough if your married.

    Gunny,

I've was five years in the Army. I deployed twice to the Middle East, so I can imagine the conditions.

What was the approximate timeframe that you were over there? Any armor on the trucks? How were the escorts? Did you come under fire? I know your not suppose to be armed, but could you if you were willing to break the rules?

What was the process by which you were hired?

    Thanks,
    Helmut

Process; is go to S. Texas for Training, Shots and background checks for around 4 weeks with NO PAY. Then you will get your first check after you have been there a couple of weeks. Are the trucks armored? Lite very light. small arms fire protection at best. Do to my rank in the Marines of E 7 I was able to carry a Baretta .45 auto I talked a SGT. MJR out of. Fired upon? Yes, we have even lost trucks to IED's. Time there? 12 month contract...Gunney

For the record-KBR truck drivers were not allowed to pack weapons except for tire thumpers and knives. No guns. Our guns were on the escorting vehicles and fired by our military escorts.

I would have my tire thumper also fire a 12 gauge load and my knife/tool would be a russian ballistic knife...

btw, are flare guns ok to carry?
