Averitt - Kingsport

I been with them for about 3 months now on the Dollar General dedicated account.
Im happy with them and have nothing bad to say about them
there might be a better company out there but I know there a lot worse ones out there

 

Got my CDL in June '13 and chose Averitt over the others that sent me pre-hires and been with them 4 months. Haven't been to the Kingsport terminal yet, but the service centers are one reason I decided to go with them. It's a bit less stressful knowing that you have dedicated locations you can go to (on your route that is or time pending) to park, shower, fuel etc..

 

Miles are going to vary, if you are willing to work and don't need to be home on Thursday to start your weekend you can get pretty good miles. That said your weekend may just be enough time for a 34 hr reset then you head back out.

 

It's what you put into it. I call my FM and let him know I need to run and they do what they can to find loads. Let's face it, the more folks going home for the weekend they can find loads for those that want to run. You can stay out as long as you want, but keep in mind not all service centers are open on weekends and you may want to stay at a truck stop. Or you could eat and shower at TS then go to yard to sleep.

In 2006 the company i had been driving for in nashville went out of business so i thought i would give averritt a try.

It was the worst 3 months of my driving career. If you have never driven for a good company or you have been accustomed to living on welfare you might find them a good company.

I have a neighbor who drives for them and loves them. However he does not make near what i make. But he was working for around $10/hr before averritt so he thinks $600 a week is good money even though he stays out all week and gets home for a reset.

I found them to be a very poorly run company. Sitting in truck stops all the time. Less than 2000 miles per week.

I knew it was going to be bad from the start. The driver manager i was assigned to started there the same week i did. He had no previous experience in the trucking industry whatsoever.
He had been laid off from a factory in livingston the week before an d averitt hired him because he had been to college..
When i was first introduced to him he actually told me that he completely understood what it was like to be a trucker because the day before he spent a couple hours riding with a local driver in a day cab...
I wanted to smack the crack out of his arse...

It all went downhill from there....
