american trucking company with Canadian driver

    hi guys can someone tell if i can hire a Canadian driver to run my refer from Florida to Canada and back to Florida even though i am a Florida based company??

    I think you can but they may have to have a work permit - it is best to check with the DHS/ICE.

    The thing you have to remember is the cabotage rights agreement we have with Canada, which means he can't transport anything other than inbound or outbound Canadian freight.

    But why would you want to hire a Canadian in the first place?

    I believe he could also haul point to point within Canada as long as the company has the rights to do so. The cabotage rules are based on the citizenship of the driver.
