I quoted the wrong post
-
I think it's better use of space when my axles do not slide and when I do need my ramps out, I need them at the back of the trailer.
And this gives me room for 6 boxes up front on the side, though I only have 4 so far. -
Gotcha. I usually pull mine off lay them down and pull ahead until they're at the back of the trailer
-
I have struts along the sides. I have no space that is 8' long without a strut being in the way. Since my ramps are heavy duty, they are six inches deep, so 24"W X 8.5"L X 6"T. They are wider than from the frame to the side of my trailer double stacked, even if stored at an angle, they would extend below the frame and outside of the rub rail. They may fit single stacked along the length of the trailer. Still, I think they would get hit too much. They won't fit side by side within the frame and below the deck. They won't fit side by side behind the rear axle.
I have though about cutting the deck and placing them between the rails at the same level as the deck, essentially, becoming part of the deck. That would be a lot of expense and they could be damaged loading. Storing them when loaded might be impossible.
I think I am stuck storing them where I have them now. -
I have struts on my trailers too. Mine fit fine
-
Did you ever mock them up? Mine fit exactly flush with the rub rail. With enough room to put a ladder and some Dunnage on top of them
-
No, I just measured with a tape measure, because they are so heavy, I haven't tried placing them in various positions. They will fit low, below the strut, but I am uncomfortable with them being, essentially, as low as the bottom of the rail and sticking out, with the storage system, 25/26 inches and even wider if they were double stacked. I was thinking about building a, hinged at the bottom, storage system, so they are stored at the same angle as the struts. I would have to single stack them and that would be 17' long.
Like you say, if I mocked up a ramp made of Styrofoam, I could, really, play out my ideas better. -
I'll snap a couple photographs for ya. I have a transcraft btw
-
I would appreciate that, I, too, have a Transcraft, a D-Eagle Step. 102" X 53' with sliding rear axle. If you do take photos, take a few close ups of your storage system.
