I have 2007 Volvo. It had a bad clutch and I took it to a mechanic. The mechanic put in new bearings and completed the job. I week later the same problem and had to tow the truck. While in the shop a new really bad sound developed in the left side of the Volvo engine. I towed it this time to a Volvo dealer. The engine had to be brought down. The new Volvo mechanic suspected a wrong bearing was used by the first mechanic. Can this be possible by any chance? Can using wrong bearings by any chance lead to engine damage? Thanks.

If he used too small of a pilot bearing and bolted it back together yes he can damage the crank and even the transmission. That's about an inch that has to give somewhere. I doubt it would of lasted a week though. It would be immediate damage.

If he used a wrong bearing the dealer can prove it. Get it in writing.

Not enough info. What do you mean by a "bad clutch"? It was in a shop, torn down and the only thing replaced were Throwout Bearing and Pilot Bearing? The same clutch was put back in? Was the flywheel resurfaced? Some Bellhousing's when taken off, need to be centered with a dial indicator when put back on.
    Supply some more info.

if you didnt notice any changes in engine work in first place I dont think it was a cause of the problem..

This is what the first mechanic on the Volvo 2007 stated: Inspected clutch operation found throw bearing came apart, and slave cylinder busted, correction replaced clutch, pilot bearing, install trans, Road test. Resurface Flywheel. The truck broke down the next day not a week later. Before it was towed to the shop, the mechanic came to road side and worked on the clutch again. He said it was tight. Back at the shop a new very bad sound was heard in the left side of the engine. At this time we decided to tow it to a Volvo dealer. Thanks
