TA also owns Petro and there just happens to be a Petro one exit from the TA in Effingham. They probably didn't see much point in having two identical restaurants right next to each other. Truck stops also cater to more than just truck drivers and the general public wants fast food.

UltimateTrucker Thanks this. -
Isn't there a Panda Express, and a Steak 'n Shake right there too. Same side of the road easy walk?

Sorry guys no one should ever take a chance with dying by food poisoning. I spent a week in Olive Branch Miss recovering from food poisoning I got out of the hospital after a day and glad I had an empty toilet in the truck ... all because the guy I was having lunch with talked me into getting the buffet. I remember it was the J that had the buffet in west memphis.

It's been awhile since I ate at TA but don't they still have the all you can eat menu? We used to do that as an alternative to the buffets.

I won't eat a true TS buffet...BUT...there is a place by the Pilot in Corbin, KY named David's or something that is pretty good. At least you can dine among families and feel like a regular person...sorta.

The Dixie truck stop in McLean, IL has the best truck stop buffet. It's a Pilot now.
Most casinos that have truck parking have buffets. I would recommend those. Especially, the ones in West Wendover, NV off of I-80. It's near the Utah border.
TA & Petro buffets are hit or miss. More miss though. -
Just watch all the filthy, pig drivers take a crap and go straight to the buffet tables, without washing their hands and you'll steer clear of buffets.
bergy and UltimateTrucker Thank this. -
TA in Effingham was closed at night, that is the beginning of the end, if you have to go elsewhere to eat at night, you'll go elsewhere all of the time.
A place I liked at Austin, MN tried closing at night, and patrons were leaving that to go to the Perkins 1 exit west, and going there during the day, that place I liked is now open all hours again, with an improved menu, and doing good business. They used to give a restaurant credit with fuel purchase, and were one of the last I ever got anything like that.
I don't care for Buffets, if it's just set up, it is worth looking at but otherwise, I pass. Many of the better regarded places haven't had buffets for a long time. I think Flying Js problem was with the salad bars, if I avoided lettuce and other green stuff, I remained free of gastric upset, but the few times I tried just salad were disastrous. It was something about all of the sulfites they used to make the material appear to be fresh.
