Who told you 7.3s weren't long lived?? Who told you they have fuel injection pump?? What a load of crap. They are the best engine ever put in any pickup and use a second oil reservoir to fire injectors. Only real problem is those who don't do their maintenance wind up getting "stickage" or filth build up. 6.0 was junk after EPA changes made them discontinue 7.3. Mine has over 255K and will still out pull any Fiat/Dodge and worth more too. Ask MasterTech. Dodge has been trying to catch up for 40 yrs and still is.

You sure about that? Around these parts late model 3rd gen 5.9L with 6 speed manual commands the premium. You really can't beat a good ol inline 6.

The IDI 7.3 & 6.9 use a Standadyne DB2 injection pump. They aren't bad engines if you do the proper maintenance, but finding one now that's been taken care of is hard. The engine you are talking about is the 7.3 Powerstroke, electronically controlled with a HUEI injection system. The CAT 3126 & some C-7's use a very similar setup.

:smt043 Wow you have no idea what you are talking about. The first poster is correct. Just cause everything you know is from the ONE truck you own does not mean you know about them all. The 7.3 goes way back before electronics.

At a certain point, maintenance issues on the rest of the truck start adding up. A good maintenance program can stay on top of it, but starts eating into the ROI, especially when unforeseen issues crop up on the road. These can happen with a new truck, but the likelihood increases significantly with older equipment.

I have an '03 F-350 w/ over 200K miles on it and it has done great for me. I have hauled with it from one end of the country to the other. That 7.3 has been good to me. The keyy is to stay on top of the maintenance. For duallies, Ford and Dodge/Ram are the only two I want. The Duramax will run a high shop bill. aluminum heads on a steel block is a poor combination. The only major repair I've had to do was replacing the transmission which has a three year unlimited milage warranty on it.

As for the OP, look in Louisiana and Texas. That is where hotshot was born and you can find a truck there. You might also have some luck checking in Coastal Mississippi and Alabama.

I have an 03 Ford, F350 (non-duels) and it's has over 170K on it right now... As stated by others, if you keep up on maintenance, it's an awesome motor that is second to none... The motor makes the truck...all bodies will rust, all paint will fade. Dodge and Ford take a good motor and build a truck around them. It's unfortunate that the EPA has to screw with the 7.3...good power, good fuel mileage...#### tree huggers.
