What is DOT verifiable experience? Can you check if your company is reporting it? I heard a driver who worked in the past at the company I am at for four months. The company didn't report his experience to the DOT and he lost a job offer that required a years experience. Does this make sense?

DOT doesn't keep track of your experience. It's tracked by new employers requesting background checks and what you put on an application. For most OTR companies OTR experience is what you drove OTR in the past 3 years. Anything outside that or local driving counts zilch.
Local driving looks at any driving as experience.
Then you might have certain equipment experience like tanker, dump, flatbed, etc. -

In addition to what condo said it means that if you have experience driving under the DOT/FMCSA regulations, like if you had to log or had to have a cdl to operate the vehicle. They will go back to the companies when/if they check your work record and ask them what you did. They want to know if you worked under the regulations as part of your experience you are claiming.
I found out a few companies don't really check, while others expect a letter to confirm you worked there. This is a regulation, it is something that claim they have to do.123456 Thanks this. -
I just bring in a box full of my old logbooks and dump them on the desk and say here's your DOT experience!!
