Interesting stuff.
One question not answered, how long the wait to be hired?
I'm in my 30's, paid for my own schooling and have completely clean records, good credit, and have been well employed since I was 15, and can prove it.
I applied in Novemeber, but had to have a small hernia surgery before I could work. I am now completely cleared and in good health. I have sent them all of the information they have asked for.
I was originally talking to the recruiter "Chris" but he apparently quit and I am now talking to "Lawanda." She cannot seem to remember my name when I contact her, and she seems to be in a hurry to get off the phone with me. She doesn't really seem interested in hiring me.
I know that I am easily hirable and am about to go with someone else. I would prefer Maverick because they have good pay and bennies, are close to my state (Kentucky) and have reputable home time. Also, I'd prefer to flatbed to keep active.
I don't want to call and ask for a different recruiter because I am afraid that will cause problems.
It's to bad that they don't have better recruiters. Anyone who has a good history is going to get snapped up to other companies if the way they are treating me is the norm.

If You Lease A Truck Its Good At First, make Good Money, But Little While Into Your Lease Company Trucks Are Getting Expensive Freight And Lease Drivers Get Ok Freight But It Goes So Far Your Expenses Are So High. Then You Can Take Truck Back And Walk Away But They Are Going To Fix Anything That They Possibly Can And Send You A Big Bill Example: Leased A Truck For A Year And A Half Had Quartley Inspections Done Turned Truck In Had About 43 Hundred In Different Account And They Still Send Me A Bill For Over 27 Hundred They Even Fixed Things That Was Wrong With It As A Company Truck Know Because I Drove It 13 Months As Company Truck. Lots Of Things They Replaced Wasnt Necessary

When I first applied , it was online, I heard nothing for several days, then I called and talked to someone ( I forget whom ) and they acknowledged my app and said it was in processing and so and so was handling it.
To sum up the whole hiring process, it took about two weeks or so
and several calls to Maverick . you gotta bug the crap outta them .

I was reading what Darin has posted and I think you have a misconception of Ed. Ed stikes me as a professional in every way, his eyesight may not be good but there is nothing wrong with his hearing. He keeps the training room cool because it helps to keep you awake, they cover a lot. The lifting test has a limit and that is 120 lbs, the reason is that's what a lumber tarp weighs. On this question and answer interview must be new, I did not experiance it in the winter of 2006. I agree having a car is nice, gives you a lot of flexability, the drawback is if you live far off when you leave your truck at the term. they tell you, it's a long drive to pick it up. Mine was 1600 miles. Overall the training was pretty good, I think you have to be more careful once you are out on the road alone. Some of those Mav. drivers think that nobody is as good as them and they can always help you do a better job on your truck than you are doing. My opinion is, if you think that you can take this coil to Alabama and secure it better than me, go for it, I will do something else. I got a call from my FM after disregarding advice from another Mav. driver about my securing style. When I am picking up a load, I am thinking about my job, not looking to my side to see if there are Mav drivers watching me. I took pictures of the load upon my arrival at my destination and found no shifting or movement of any kind. I avoided most Mav drivers after that incident. I resent the idea that because I don't follow your instructions that I don't know what I am doing. I attended the same orientation that they did. You have to listen to what they say, they want the best of the best, not everyone will make that grade. Good luc. drive55cat

drivecat, You are correct , Ed is very professional . I was not trying to make him sound like a jerk or anything, but I guess my post may say otherwise. What I said is true about talking outloud in his class, atleast
that was my experience. He had every right to expect his class be professional as well. Some of the other trainers were a little more laid back yet they were also very professional at the same time . Like I said in my earlier post I believed Ed to be A Decent Guy but while some of the other trainers may over look a small amount of talking when you first went into class , Ed didn't so those that did talk and get reprimanded may have gotten a bit lax from one traner to the next and to be quite honest
they should have known better. I hope I made this a bit more clear.
They do keep it rather cool in the rooms ,luckily I brought a jacket each day. As far as a car, I only suggest if you live within reason although
one guy did drive from WV. I was a bit worried about leaving my car after I would have gotten my truck , but I believe it was Keith that told me not to worry , he had left one there for 6 months once. -
When I talked to recruiting they were very honest with me. I live in Pensacola, FL and they told me it might take 6-8 weeks. I talked to Tim and was a great guy. He actually told me to go somewhere else to get experience and come in later!
