How many times in 12 months have you been to northern VT NH ME or Montreal ?
Since you survived enough weather ... how would you rate chaining and tarping loads in sub zero temps , winds and rain . Better or worse than you imagined .
Did you haul many full height loads or do you run shorter than dry box/reefer most of the time .
Whats your least favorite city to roll into for a delivery , and whats you least favorite state ?
If you had to do the first year all over again would you do it with Roehl or would you try another company ?

It's been a while since i been to VT, last time i was there i had a delivery near the Vermont teddy bear factory. Then i got loaded in Brattleboro VT, a lumber yard near some lake. I live in NY state so sometimes run a load through Quebec to get home. I suffered some snowy weather and i have to say chaining and tarping outside is not that bad plus i make more money than the otr van drivers. Make sure you leave you sleeper heat running then you throw 4 chains then get back inside you truck (repeat... until you're ready to roll.) Most the the loads i get are shorter then the freight boxes but sometimes i haul ceiling tile which measures right at 13'4. I even hauled a 14'5 high 10 ft wide farming tractor, so in our world you get a nice mix. My least favorite city to deliver too is one that has me waiting for a load in a bad freight area. Being born and raised in NYC most traffic jams in Chicago or LA don't surprise me. Roehl is the best company i worked for good pay good hometime and they hired me as a student.

What's tarp pay at Roehl?
-
The pay is $12 for steel tarps and $22 for lumber tarps. Not the best pay for tarps in the industry, however the company does give us 2 lumber tarps and 3 steel tarps which is a plus. many companies pay more for tarping but if you want a small steel tarp for a single metal coil they require to buy your own.
Ducttape Thanks this. -
Just to add, yes it's lower than many, it's $12 to tarp, $12 to untarp for steel. $22 for lumber. So $24 and $44 if you do complete load.Ducttape Thanks this.

And it's $12 to tarp/untarp with steels, no matter whether you had to use one steel or three. When I'm folding up my third steel in the cold and wind, I'm thinkin' about the $4 I'm earning.

Cheaper than most is the ROEHL way...Take Haz Mat loads for instance! You will only get the $25.00 extra if you have to run placards. If the load doesn't need placards and has Haz Mat product, you still have to follow all the same procedures but you will not get paid the $25.00.

The best was going into Canada! Always worth it... NOT!
-
That is why I let my Hazmat expire while I was there. Hauling that 32k lbs of liquid death a couple times up to WI from KY just wasn't worth the money. The customers were really nice but like I said it just wasn't worth $25. I did other Hazmat loads but that stuff was no joke.
