If you're taking your break in the sleeper, it must be logged as such...

It may be different in each locale but I had a friend tell me other than a LEO coming in to say get a cup of coffee or investigate a reported crime they wouldn't harass drivers but if they spotted a violation they would either wait did you to pull out or notify another officer who would happen to be "driving by" when you pull out

That sounds more reasonable, to wait for the driver to pull out if you see a violation, rather than wake them up.

I stopped at the Little America in Flagstaff yesterday and saw two LEO's blocking a truck in the fuel island. The trucker was working on his passenger side mirror, with the globe hanging down by its wires. Lot's of nervous truckers seemed to be pulling out.

so in Cumberland, PA i pull in the idleair flying J truckstop entrance and the first thing I see is a DOT van sitting next to the scale with the officer next to the van looking at trucks. I was like oh crap crap crap. but as i avoided the eyecontact driving passed him into the deep of the parking lot, I guess he didn't chase me. Now I am like supre curious what he is doing there. It's the DOT cop van that hangs around the i-81 south of harrisburg. I hope he'll be gone by the time I'll finish my rest

You can log off duty all the time but there are a couple of things you need in order to do it.

    1) friends or family that are close by that you can stay with and they can vouch you were there.
    2) hotel receipt

if you have a sleeper kinda hard not to log sleeper without at least one of the above on hand.

Doesnt pa usually use rest areas for dot inspections and scales? I know a while back on 55 north in il. That Leo's were diverting truck traffic to the off ramp into the loves in order to weigh and do dot inspections in the truckstop so this may be what they were doing.

Legally they cant and you don't have to comply to an illegal search and seizure but realistically speaking, if you don't you might end up in jail anyway, which should be stopped. Would just depend on the character of the officer making the request.

Yea Pa uses rest areas for inspections, so does Ohio sometimes. Ive seen Ohio in those rest areas on I75 doing D.O.T. inspections.
