I was reading a comment about if you didn't want to accept a load then just tell them your bowels are acting up and it brought up something I should of asked a while ago. I have crohn's disease and have bad bowel movements. Do trucker company's shy away or not hire people like me due to that type of disease? I mean I can last a lot longer without having to use the bathroom while sitting and can hold it through pretty well. But some days it can be pretty bad to where sitting just sucks and I need a bathroom right there to make it through the day. But back to the question, are company's more likely refuse people with a disease like crohn's??

That's a new one on the forum. Is it even necessarily to tell the company? But there's going to be many times you'll be miles from the nearest restroom then what?Better stock up on walmart bags, lol.

Not likely but it comes down to the person and their ethics, putting themselves into a position that forces others to accept their condition no matter what. Having been to a few places where bathrooms were off limits to vendors or the public, it would be rather bad for you to demand something out of a customer.

I also forgot about training.Sounds like this can be serious at times, trainer will find out and it won't be pleasant with his reactions.Even though you really wanna pursue this carreer, unless you get it 100% under control I would suggest finding a job where you have access to a restroom at all times.

I wouldn't mention it to a company. Just take care of yourself and prepare for an emergency. Carry a 5 gal. plastic bucket with some large garbage bags so if an emergency arises, you take care of business and dispose of it in dumpster. No one needs to know about it.

As far as riding with a trainer; choose a company that doesn't have those ridiculously long training periods. No one needs months with a trainer. No one needs 10's of thousands of miles with a trainer. Watkins & Shepard has 10 day orientation and then your solo; look for companies like this.

I agree, dont even mention it to the company.I know I wouldn't.But a trainer may not act to kindly about the bucket thing. That would be more my concern.

    Training carrying a bucket?

Seriously do you guys know what this is?

I wonder if the OP takes meds, they have to disclose that on their long form, so not telling the company is not an option.

I know what it is; my nephew has it. That's why I suggested hiring on with a company that doesn't have the long training period. Sure, it will be on the long form, but I still wouldn't mention it unless asked specifically about it.

I wouldn't waste my time getting a cdl with that disease. We have a 14 hr clock and it doesn't stop, and I know from living with my wife. Some times you can be on the pot for awhile. When that starts cutting into delivery time. Companies will get rid of you and then nobody will want to hire you. Plus you have modern day warehouses, but they make drives use port a potties. Or there is like 1 bathroom to accommodate the 100 drivers who are there. So the lines can be long.

I have crohns disease and have been driving for right at 13 years. Yes it is a pain in the rear sometimes, literally. I tell the doctor when I go for a physical and its on my long form and companies have no problem with it.
As for not wasting your time getting a cdl, that is just BS. You can do anything you want to with crohns, you might just have to take special precautions. I have had crohns for 18 years and I do not and will not ever let it hold me back from doing what I want to do.
