My post was more to his severity of his disease. If it is bad, and has frequent flare up and sometimes need surgeries, and hospitalizations. Then Again it's going to be a tough road for him. My wife hasn't had a severe flare up in 4 years or even serious problems. But b4 this she was taking not sure how to spell it Remicade shots, and having to take days off work. Somebody show me a trucking company who likes getting drivers to go pick up their trucks when there drivers are frequenting the emergency room or can't take loads because of bad flare up's. I'm sure there may be a couple who understand, but for the most part. They want the wheels on the truck to be going round and round round and round.

I understand what you are saying Dinomite. I used to take Remicade and now I take Humira and give myself shots every 2 weeks. Yeah if his crohns isnt somewhat under control it will be hard. I have mine somewhat under control and I also know what to do if I start to flare up. I still have a few symptoms but I just stay on top of it.
If I was in a flare though I wouldnt go on the road because I wouldnt want to end up in a hospital far away from my house.
I just didnt want him to think that crohns should hold him back.

OTR might pose a big challenge with this condition. Could this driver still take local work? You're in and out of the cab more often (but not necessarily near an accessible bathroom at each stop).

What about being an equipment recovery driver?

Crohns can be controlled as long as its under control OTR will be fine. Challenging at times yes but thats why I watch what I eat. I have also been dealing with it for 18 years so I know a good bit about how it affects me.
Its just really all depends on if he has his disease under control or not. I dont mean zero symptoms just under control.

Yeah, my disease is under control, I get flare ups, but its usually every once in a while if I drink alcohol or eat something that my stomach doesn't like. Other than that, ever since my huge surgery, it has mainly just been bowel movements. In 2011 of may I had to had immediate surgery due to going almost fully septic from a hole in my intestines. Had to have a temporary Ileostomy. After that it has gotten better. All that really happens to me now is either needing a blood transfusion every once in a while, getting remicade every six weeks, b12 shots(unless my hemoglobin gets too low which SUCKS lol), but other than that, its just bowel movements. I may have flares closer to when I get my remicade. But it is not nearly as bad as the pain before my surgery. God that sucked lol. I'm trying to get into LTL before getting into an OTR company. I've been signed on to start with swift, but if I can get into a really good LTL company like ABF or something like conway, then I will. I'll let my employer know after I get employed so that way, they can't really fire me from having crohns I think? Mcdonalds did....even though I was their best back drive worker...Anyways, that is another story :p But back to the crohns thing. The only recent bad thing that has happened to me was my crohns flare up made an ulcer hit a blood vessel. Had to get a blood transfusion...lots TONS of blood. Like...sorry for the personal thing here...but dark red bowel movements. Was like horror movie status lol. But that is all that has really happened to me since surgery. I had a twist once or twice of where my intestine was removed. But resting for the day and taking a stomach relaxer helps it go away.
