hello everyone. First of all please do not lie or stretch the truth in your responses. I really need 100 percent honest answers so I can best choose which path I need to take.

I currently drive for maverick transportation pulling a flatbed. I have been with them since August 1st 2013. I have no complaints with this company they are really great and I am making about 42cpm. miles very but I don't sit often. I bring home nearly 900 per week after taxes.

the only reason I may be switching is due to home time. I only get home every other weekend which is about 4 days a month. I have a wife and two children so home time is important to me. My dream job would be to drive a truck and be home Nightly or almost every night.

I am considering driving for Schneider to get training and experience tankers. eventually, I will want to get a local job where I can be home every night but most of the companies where I live pull tank
with gas or spring water. having experience would help me to get a local job down the road.

basically I only need to know 3 things. Number 1 is the home time as good as they say it is. They say I will have 6 days off per month and I get to choose how to use them. Can I trust that?

second, how long will I be out with a trainer considering I already have driving experience but not with a tanker. I do not have a hazardous materials endorsement. I used to have it but I let it drop off several years ago. I would be more than willing to get it back.

finally, how much can I expect to bring home. Cents per mile does not concern me. You could be getting 60 cents per mile and only 500 miles a week. I want to know how much I can expect to bring home both starting and after I have a few months under my belt.

thank you for your answers and please be honest. I am sorry if some of my words are off I am writing this using voice activation on my phone while I'm on the interstate

I live in the CA bay area so things will be different. I work for KAG and right now with 2 years driving you could easily get on. The pay is 23.27 an hour and it's about the same at other companies. No raise in almost 10 years and some free work, same be as other companies. They DON'T want you to work tired. We have a thing called "stop work" where anyone can tell you to stop till a manager is called. Home every night, days off,I work 5on 2off 5on 3off so the days off rotation. Not great but also not a bad job

You can get home for your 6 days, no one will hassle you but you need to run to make money. I usually run 3 weeks out and take 4 or 5 days home. Your time with a trainer will be about a week and probably you will stay local, so hotel at night. Experienced guys don't need a lot of time. Making the same amount as you do now should be no problem, you might make more. That is about as honest as I can make it.

I didn't have a lick of experience pulling tanks. I went out with a local TE for two days, that was it. You'll pick up real quick what to do and what not to do out on the road. If you have paitience, you won't have any trouble with it.
