Had a single stack Freightliner, only chrome on it was the stack, in rusted condition. Had more miles on it than a NY Lot lizard. Got me started. Made me learn. Wow, just sweet memories.

I stand corrected. The Road Commode was later, like '78 (White Road Commander)

Does anyone remember that guy on the base station in Toronto circa 1995, with the funny Russian accent..."COME ON, COME ON!"

..or the rolling protest about diesel prices, also through Toronto on hwy 401, circa 1990-ish. That was a big deal that showed truckers don't have to strike to get results. All it takes is one or two guys at the front of the line in a big city to invent the term "fuel surcharge" or "cap on diesel prices".

The first series Road Commander was only a 7400 with a different fiberglass front on it and the roof line was even with the top of the windshield instead of sticking out over like a sunvison that the 7400 had. I also had a 1st generation Road Commode with a VT-903 and 13 spd. That thing was a bear and got great fuel mileage.

This is not mine, just a picture I found.

The CL9000 2 story Ford, The first air ride cab. Drove a brand new one for a while, and the first right hand turn I made scared the crap out of me that big ol cab leaned to the left and I thought I was going to turn over. Lol Took a few days to get used to that, but it sure road good. Being young I used to just reach out grab the handle swing out an slide down using just my hands, it wasn't call 2 story for nothing.

My favorite. Stopped in a rest area in W. Texas and there was a big R driver sitting by the side of the road with a bowl & spoon & a quart of Milk. Well I walked over an said " Big R what the heck are you doing?" Well he looks up and smiles an said " I'm waiting for the Corn Flakes to come by."

"California Concrete" in a Ford Cabover, before air ride. That's when you cinched up the seat belt REAL GOOD to keep from getting launched out the windshield with each forward and back lurch as you got into the rhythm of rocking on the uneven concrete on California freeways. Kind of like riding a bucking horse.

YouACTUALLY got used to that CL Kilroy? I rode one for almost a year--and still dreaded every downhill curve--LOL--also the FIRST truck I ever drove w/power steering--got out of it and into a 359 and NEVER looked back LOL
