My fiancé and I have found a truck that we will be buying from Lone Mountain, but the next step is where should we lease the trailer from? I was considering Xtra Lease, but they only lease trailers to companies and not owner operators. Any suggestions would be nice as to who else we should consider leasing a flatbed or step deck trailer from. I also was considering Prime Trailer Leasing, but no one I have spoken to has heard of them... Alrighty. Like I said, any suggestions or past experiences with these trailer leasing companies would be helpful. Thanks.
Where to lease a flatbed or step deck trailer from?

I am assuming you cant afford to buy a used flatbed trailer for $5K to $10K so, why don't you just lease onto a company, until you have the money saved up to buy a trailer? You could lease onto Mercer and lease purchase a brand new trailer from them. I don't work for Mercer, just heard a lot of good things about them and know someone that pulls for them. Good luck

your starting out with your own authority sounds like. and from what i've been reading on here. you going to have a heck of a time getting loads untill you get your first safety audit. and a score.
sammons, mercer, landstar, and i beleive admiral merchants will rent you a trailer. or lease purchase. might consider leasing on first. before running your own show.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Thanks. Right now he's a company driver for a small company. We were hoping to be able to lease the truck on to his company and lease a trailer from Xtra, but in the end if our plans have to change they will.

You might want to check with K&L Trailer Leasing out of Knoxville TN.

My experience has been that new combo trailer payments will be equal or less with a down payment than leasing a trailer.
If you're not just sitting on the pot and farting but your really gonna poop it's better to buy one outright.SheepDog Thanks this. -
In Houston theres individuals ( not companies )that rent trailers and advertise on Craiglist you might want to check there. Does your husband not know local truckers that he might ask?

If he's leasing to a small company they should be willing to let him pull their trailers. Sure, you may have to give them a few points on percentage. But it really should be a win, win situation. At least that way you can drop and hook as necessary and it should be a much more manageable expense for the company than for you just starting out.
I would say try it that way if they are agreeable, do the math, if it winds up costing you more than $500/mo or so you may consider buying a trailer later on. -
Thanks everyone. Still no trailer yet, but still looking. We are picking up the truck next week out of Georgia. He doesn't know any local drivers that are selling used flat beds or step decks. His boss is proposing that he do power only for a while, but my thing is that I'm not going to let him go broke.

Just rented a 53 x 102 from Jim Hawk Truck Trailers in Kansas City.
They have other stores around the country you might try them.
Look them up online.
