That's odd cuz....my DS pamphlet I just got in the mail says they're hiring in Atlanta and Macon...GA....but, maybe that's changed...

 

Doesn't Averritt Have a Orlando terminal? I see a lot of their trucks in Brevard County, FL.

You won't get on w/ them now unless you live w/in one of their 3 or 4 open terminals and have only 1 job in the last 10 years. Now you still need to meet their apperance guidelines but I would say to go w/ PAM. I'm not a disgruntled ex-employee like you'll see on here but I'm telling you they are really picky during the winter months and are so selective it almost seems like wasted advertising that they even offer training now through driver solutions! read up on PAM, they are a great starter company for what they provide up front = training and a job before the training, just do your time the first year and then move on!

 

Call the terminal or the 800 number. Don't go by the web site or printed material. I have some printed material that they handed out just before the freeze here in Georgia but it means nothing, They still are not hiring here.
As for the uniform requirment and other things they expect. I see nothing wrong with that. They are try to put a good company image out there. They really can't go hiring getto looking drivers if they are trying to set a higher standard.

 

I agree with the standards...I was just letting the other guy know about the standards; just in case he didn't want to shave or have piercings.

 

I have read about Averrit, USA truck, and PAM. I like the fact they work with you on training and school. Are they good companies as far as not asking you to run illegal? Sorry, not trying to highjack. Just curious about the Driver Solutions companies.

 

I just went thru this myself, so this is based on my recent experience. As I type I am not employed with a carrier yet.
. I just graduated from local college Dec15-2007 to get my license again. Drove many years ago but it doesn't count for recent experience as required by most all GOOD companies.
.. In case you don't know this yet, I am sure you will learn this. All companies have someone somewhere that will not advise that you ever work for them.
... But those same companies will have someone somewhere on the other side of the road, saying this company ain't bad at all and will recommend them to anyone.
.... My belief is this, most all companies are better at some things and not so good at others. I prefer to look at equipment as a deciding factor if all other details are close to the same. To me good equipment shows me that at least the company can keep you on the road and that they do care about what you drive. To me better normally means safer!
..... For newbies I don't suggest that you base your choice on CPM(cents per mile) of who to work for. As an example in words, I could offer you a dollar a mile and only work you in for a 500 mile week and you would make $500. Or I could offer you only .50 a mile and work you for a 1000 mile week and you will still make $500. Unless you are going home more when not driving, I would just as soon be driving more than sitting and waiting on loads or unloading or truck breakdowns or whatever. Hope you see my point.
...... Here is the pay range I have been offered and I am going to give miles needed to make $800 paycheck in a week just so you can see the number picture.
.28cpm x 2857 miles = $800
.29cpm x 2758 miles = $800
.30cpm x 2666 miles = $800
.32cpm x 2500 miles = $800
.34cpm x 2285 miles = $800
<> Now to sum up my perspective view. I want to be happy where ever I go to work at. For me I want more hometime, good benefits, decent pay and good equipment. That will most likely make me happy as long as I am treated respectfully. I could go for more money but that is not my priority. I just want to be able to make $800 a week to begin with. The company that I choose may be my right choice but not necessarily your right choice. And my last comment is go ahead and apply at all of them. What does it matter who you want to work for if they won't hire you? Apply to many, select from the few offers you get. Go from there and work your way up the ladder. My mistake was waiting too long to choose before applying. Who I really decided that I wanted to work for was not hiring! I am sure I could have already been driving by now had I applied to more companies early on. One company I checked with said I should have applied sooner. They had a limit of 45 days post graduation date for hiring. Hope this helps some of you. Good Luck to all and Be Safe

If any way possible stay away from driver solutions. I have a friend that went there and is now in a one year contract with Star Transport out of IL. and has no way out. The miles are high and the pay, LOW.
Try going to a local freight company. If they are hiring you can get on and work the dock and they will usually train you to drive if you let them know you want to learn.

 

Why did your friend go with Star? The pamphlet that Driver Solutions has says all of the pay scales for drivers. Star's is very low on the mileage, not very good benefits...but, they promise hometime to be 3 out of 4 weeks.
I'm going down to StLouis tomorrow...to check out the Drivers Solutions school. I'll let everyone know what I find out. Figured I'ld go find out for myself, before I go.

 

He had a pre hire with Averett going thru school and they pulled it at the last minute. He had worked a job for two weeks about 5 years ago and didn't put it on his application so they said he had lied to them and would not hire him. He was picked up by Star the next day which was also his last day of school.
