Don't listen to these naysayers driver. Trucking is a great way to earn a living. As to your question. I've worked around drivers with all three of those companies. A guy I trained at the company that I work for. Recently quit at went to Keim. He is making really good money with weekends off. He lives in Jasper, Tn. TMC and McElroy would both be good for you to start your career with also. McElroy will get you home weekends no matter what. Just be ready to tarp everything. TMC gets there drivers home weekends to. Only I've talked to a few who have been getting hung out on more than one occasion. So if it were me I would be looking at McElroy or Keim.

Don't get the mans false hopes up driver.
You have been in it for 8 years===you know better than that.

Suppose the truck breaks down in Sheboygan, and you are sitting in a Super 8? Are you home?
Suppose you're sent to Miami on Thursday....plenty of time to grab a load and run through the house....but; there are no immediate loads? Are you home?
Suppose you have a load delivers to Bismark, ND. and a big storm shuts down the freeways? Are you home?
Suppose another drivers wife just passed away, and needs to get home immediately, and you are the only one in the area that can cover his load for him? Are you home?

Stop it! I am not a "Nay Sayer"....I am a seasoned veteran to the industry; and more so, a "realist".

Unfortunately McElroy only runs the south and Midwest so there's a strong possibility

You must be real concerned since this is the 2nd post you have ask this question on. Like the previous post said. If your that concerned you should wait 3 or 4 months before you apply. Or maybe find a job that doesn't care what you do in your spare time. Real men (or women )with real family's never worry about failing a drug screen because their focus is on making a living and using their earnings to by food and clothing. Not stuff that would concern them as such as a hair test. Sorry don't mean to sound judgmental but you ask on an open forum.

Yah; the "hair follicle" question is getting old.
Here's an idea for everyone: Behave yourself, or look for other type of work!
This industry will drug test you for: "pre-employment", "random", "suspicion", and an accident that involves: 1). Death, 2). Injury needing treatment beyond accident site, 3). If any vehicle involved needs towed.

The industry has made it very clear, they don't want drivers using illegal substance, before, during, and even after your tenure with any given company.

I have nothing against anyone doing whatever they want, whenever they want....but if you choose drugs---might as well choose a different profession as well. Hey; if they ever legalized marijuana nation wide, there is a good chance I would opt out of the industry all together, and start smoking it again, I used to LOVE it.....but I had to let that go 20 years ago. I made a choice.

You have mutiple post on the same subject First off flatbeding is hard work! TMC and Mcelroy are top tier company and have high standards.
I've noticed you quite interested in the pay scale so here goes: .40-.45 a mile loaded or empty paid by PC Miler practicle miles. .1 per mile tarp pay.
No pay for tarping and yes MTL stands for "must tarp load" Off weekends??? yes, with a emphasis on leaving sunday afternoon for a 7.00 am monday morning appointment. Training the first two weeks are spent at the terminal Working on logs,Map Reading,Securement,Safety Mcelroy places a HUGE emaphsis on map reading and directions having said that there will be home work on Logs,Map reading, and Mcelroy policy due the following morning. The other is practicle training out in the yard learning how to handle split axle flatbeds. There will two road tests during the first two weeks one of which will be a loaded trainer. The next four weeks will be out with a trainer, you will be expected to make stready progress durning training. The last week you will be expected to drive the truck/tarp the whole time. The final will be in Cuba Alamba with the safety director handing you a set of written directions and your expected to follow them. Short Haul ie "Minimum pay gurarantee" Example: Short haul 150miles 130 paid pc miler 100.00 guaranteed loaded and milage on the way back 130 x .40=52.00 Total 152.00 While at orientation/terminal always wear a gulf shirt and conduct yourself as a professional. I was on a decicated account and yes some places will put the tarps on for you all you haft to do is strap and bungie the load.

Mcelroy will you up front: " WE ARE NOT A TRUCK DRIVING PROGRAM" Make sure you have confidance in backing and shifting. Everything you
need to know you should have learned in truck driving school! we (Mcelroy) just iron out the rough edges. If you attended a short-term school i highly recommend applying somewhere else. When arriving at orientation congradulations you are now a professional and expected to produce (drive) in a short amout of time. If your thinking about applying,do it now: They will check everything on the application including employment history if your application is accepted they will give you time to put in your two weeks notice. I'm no longer with Mcelroy while I was there i was treated fairly The Mcelroy family takes it's ruputation (good name) very serioulsy. Check out you tube under mcelory there are a few videos there.

The last time i checked TMC hometime policey was home 46 out 52, maverick was every two weeks home varies by company

In conclusion sir i would highly suggest thinking about another line of work or revevaluate what you expected. TRUCKING is a business and driving a truck is a LIFESTYLE. Experienced drivers are not very tolerant of new drivers and the general public can be:biggrin_25516::biggrin_2555:

I wish you all the best in what ever choice you make I hope that helped

Sorry if my research offended you. My original post was simply merged. I did not know exactly how this operated and was simply attempting to obtain information. Did not force you to read, just saying....thanks for the info

Call the terminal manager at Keim and ask him. It doesn't do much good to ask us because we don't know. I know Keim has part-time drivers on the plains who mostly drive local ,delivering dropped loads or whatever.... farmer types who need extra income or are semi-retired, but only the Jasper manager can tell you what's up out there. I know we just got a new sheetrock customer just inside Alabama and there are a bunch of local loads out of the vinyl siding plant in Jasper. Give him a call.
