But the only problem with that is what's junk to one driver might be the holy grail to another. No company is a one size fits all. Especially when you get as big as some of the megas where they have 10k+ trucks and drivers. I've drove for Schneider on a dedicated account and loved it. I drove for crst and hated it cause the pay was terrible but my school trains worked for them for over 30 years so he loved it. I now work for a small tanker company getting paid hourly and love it.

    KC Guardrail Thanks this.

With a 1099, the employer is NOT paying into social security, medicare, workman's compensation, not to mention not taking out and paying into the federal and state tax system. If you, the employee, gets sick, hurt or disabled, you could be up a creek without a paddle, possibly minus the whole canoe.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

You are EXCEPTIONALLY LUCKY to have found a union job that pays you the money that you are receiving, along with the benefits that you are receiving.

Millions upon millions of Americans will NEVER be able to earn the EXCELLENT money or receive the EXCELLENT benefits that you are receiving.

There may be a day when those EXCELLENT paying union jobs with EXCELLENT benefits will cease to exist. Employers, as a rule, do NOT like paying out those types of wages or giving out those types of benefits.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Lots of similar union and non union jobs all over. Of course if you have a crappy work, driving, military, criminal, credit history you are not likely to ever see one. And if you think being a trucker means being covered with tats and piercings and wearing getto/biker/Goth clothing you are probably making it harder as well. If you can read well/write well/speak well/have decent manners/7th grade math skills, etc you stand a much better chance. If you can show all endorsements, TWIC, HazMat, any other option that shows you have tried to improve yourself even if you don't use them you have a leg up. You are as close to the customer as the company normally gets except salesman. You look like a thug or banger even though you are not a bad person at all and you will lose to the clean cut guy. Nothing personal. Just business. And you have to get off that arse and look in most cases. These jobs are not normally on some freebie likes Craigslist. You will get out what you put in. Well hopefully.

the truth of any job is if your happy enough it is a good job
you dont deserve more or less because the other driver is making more or less
if your happy enough without insurance and 1099 it is a good job
if you make twice as much and unhappy what good is it
i know this isnt a popular theory these days but it is the truth
I like OTR others think I should get a local job
    Who is right ????/

Liking your job all that matters. People trying to dictate ( OTR recruiters paid by CDL school ) your career path. Is what i disagree on.

Trucking world is complex. So much equipment to learn and areas to adventure. Nothing should be dictated by $$$$$ to new permit holders in a school.

No CY, I disagree. 1099 jobs are just another way greasy truck operators shaft the driver. Of course you have to let them in this case......

If I had my way I'd drop a nickel on every 1099 job known and just see if it can pass the sniff test...this one don't.

This is a carrier problem, spun from years of racing to the bottom on rates, now there's no money left for anybody but costs......so the lessor is gonna eat, and the owner is gonna eat, but mahuck the driver......

    Burns me up....
