You got on at Con-Way out of Monticello Hotrod? I'm glad to hear that, on a side note I bet it's buzzing up there with the Noles going to the championship game, hopefully they come out on top.

I'm a recent CDL grad and decided to go with Cypress; I start Monday. I had an offer in from Stevens, Werner, Knight, and Prime, but all wouldn't pay more than .26cpm, and it was all obviously OTR. I spoke to a hiring manager at Cypress and was told they were willing to accept my past Military driving as experience, and that they usually require a minimum of 6 months OTR before getting hired on with their regional flatbed side. Not sure how much of that statement was smoke and mirrors, but I've read both the ups and downs about this outfit, and I'm willing to take a chance to attempt to stay more local (I'm in Tampa). Here's the numbers I was given-
Training lasts 5-6 weeks. 1 week of that is at their terminal in Jacksonville for orientation. You are paid $500 a week, and the hotel cost is paid for by them up front. Meals are the individual's responsibility. Once you complete training, you start at .34cpm. After 6 months this goes up, but I can't find the exact number. I believe it was .36-.38. I already have my DOT physical card and was told that was acceptable and would not have to have another done (at my expense). There is a drug test, I was not informed if I had to pay that or not, but I will ask and report back.
I'll keep you guys apprised of how it goes. I've read both the good and the bad about them here on this forum, as well as other sites online and either you hear how great of a job it is, or how old and crappy their equipment is and how mean a dispatcher was to a past employee. I'll do my best to stay objective and unbiased, and post back here on how it goes.
To say I'm a little nervous, however, would be an understatement. But, I'm willing to give a local carrier a chance before signing my life away to Steven's and be OTR.Last edited: Jan 14, 2014

I really wouldn't let the "old" equipment get you nervous. I drive a 96 FLD at the company I work for and it does just as good a job as any other truck, only difference is it doesn't look as good. I think you're doing yourself a favor going with a regional company that is based in Florida, you can expect to get home and not be hung out thousands of miles away trying to get back.
Personally, Cypress's old FLD's are some of my favorite trucks, call me crazy.......... -

Old equipment doesn't bother me. Some of the stuff I drove in the Army should have been laid to rest 40 years ago.
Rinaudonic seems to require you live within 150 miles of Jacksonville, and Tampa is ~200 miles away. I'll give them a buzz tomorrow but that might be a deal breaker. Thanks for the tip! -
We got drivers live in Miami and Tampa....

Awesome! I'll give them a call tomorrow. Was just going off what the website said.
