The SD ticket, you permited the load but you were not maxed out in your registration so got the ticket? If you dont mind the question, how much was the citation?
I wanted to ask this same question but didn't want to get flamed. I have 2000 corn stalk bales to haul this winter. Only going about 45 miles. Call me lazy but I'd rather leave everything on. One of the trailers we made permanently wide. But my step obviously is not. I guess I can see why it is illegal. I got popped in Kansas bobtailing less than 1 mile to my house with my Oversize sign still on the front. I dropped the trailer out at my shop and was just going to the house for the night, didn't feel like taking everything off, slid the mirrors in and pulled out onto a city street only to go 3 blocks and meet a KHP going the other way. He followed me home, offered up that he had seen my truck parked there "numerous" times with my OD banner and flags still attached and said this was my one and only warning. Haven't moved legal sized with a sign or flag on since but I have my signs set up where it takes less than 1 minutes to remove everything and about a full minute to put them back on.
We had a couple drivers get popped for that in Iowa also. I usually find it just easier to take the stuff off.
i leave my banners on my trailer all the time, i roll them up , i actually had to bolt them on so that my license plate would not be covered. I have forgotten to turn my strobes off before, and crossed a scales with them on. luckliy nothing was said. I have mine wired so when the key is off they are off, so i unloaded put up all of my stuff, and took off to my next load, i had forgot to turn them off, didnt know it untill someone said something to me on the radio, had been through two scalehouses.
