Thank you for that. I was pretty sure, but wanted to be 100% certain. Thanks for the clarification, truckingwolf!

How do you study for the hazmat? Where can I find the materials to do such?

That is pretty sweet! I wanna get all of my endorsements, besides passenger, but not sure yet. I'm gunna get a TWIC card, and passport.

What kind of trucking do you do?

Lastly, thank you for your time and assistance!

Twic cards are over rated. Unless you are going in and out of ports for your employer. Twic also has nothing to do with the DMV. Just google twic go to the government web site and you can find the closest place near you to get one takes about a month to get if i remember right. Just a big background check is all. I have had mine for 2 years now and have never used it.

Get your twic...hazmat...tanker...try to start off pulling chemicals...much more money and your home way more...ima break down division for you...van is a lazy man job...u open doors back up slide tandems and drop and hook..money is okay but not the best...flat bed....pays more yhen dry van and reefer...tarp and strap and chain down loads...tarping suckz in the winter and windy places...strapping can suck in the wind too...alot of jumping on and off of trailers...tanjer easy money but dangerous. ..u paid for everything. .detention. .load and unload rather you touch it or not...even paid to sleep in the truck...hardest thing about tanks is climbing on and off the tanks if u fear heights. .and chemical suits from time to time

Well, I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. It may be the deciding factor of you getting a load, or sitting for a day or two at one point. I understand where you're coming from and I respect your opinion! I'm sure I will be thinking that at one time or another!

I'm not sure how other companies are about TWIC cards. At Boyd if you don't have it they will take you to get it before you get a truck. You have to pay for it though.

Thanks for that, realsupatrucka! I am considering doing either flatbed or tanker to start out with; I am, currently, leaning more towards tanker lately.

I have a few questions for you regarding tanks:

    1. Do you know of any GOOD companies that hire newbie drivers fresh out of (private) trucking school? I will be 21 years old, residency will be in downstate NY (about 70 miles north of Scranton, PA), and will have all endorsements, too.

    2. When hauling chemical bulk for tanker (obviously), while you're out on the road...do you get all the smells from the load?

    3. This question may sound kind of stupid, but: are there OTR jobs for tanker?

    4. Do you know of any good companies that haul milk? I would really like to haul milk at one point or another in my life. I would like to as my first job, but beggars cannot be choosers!

Thanks for your input, time, and knowledge!

Like I said I got mine I just don't use it. Plus most people don't get into trucking cause they have alot of money and a twic card is $179.25 if I do remember correctly. Not saying don't get it just putting up some facts is all.

I would assume most companies would. I've been advised to get it before I apply - or at least get hired by - to companies. So, I think I'm going to take that route; however, I haven't been blessed with finding any TWIC offices around me. NY seems to be the worst area to get rolling with a trucking career.

I hear you there. I do appreciate your opinion; you make a valid point! I do believe that they lowered the price to $125 a year or two ago, and they will knock off $15 if you have already applied and gotten your HazMat endorsement, too.
