JMO, I absolutely despise the pwr mics of any brand. They amplify the sound of all your cab noises as well as the voice to the max... So what you say into mic is washed with background noise, sounds like you stuck head out window and talking. Rather get a RK56, or other noise cancel mic; Even if your modulation isn't maxed, least we hear what your saying.
ok guys swr help..

I like the Road Devil power mic. Which helps with background noise while amplifying your voice.
-
Power mics make you sound louder but helps nothin with distence.Think of it as if someone yelling in your ear or someone 3ft away talkin to you normally..Which sounds better..
-
RK56 is a good mic. The Astatic 636L is a good one too.
-
IMHO...I think over the years I have had just about every Mic on the market at one time or another...And at this time, choosing from what is available on the market today NEW...The two best hand-held Mic's out there is the Ranger SRA 198 NC Mic, and the RF Limited Xtreme 2018 Power Mic.
The SRA 198 is by far a better NC Mic, and better built Mic vs. the RK-56 and the Astatic 636L.
The New RK 56's are nothing short of "junk"...(we can thank Barjan for this when they bought the rights to the Mic)
Astatic 636L is a "OK" Mic, but feels like a toy IMO holding the thing...And the Astatic Road Devil is so flimsy made, if you squeeze the case while talking, the guy on the other end hears what sounds like you crushing a beer can..."crunch-crunch-crunch"...
The SRA 198 is molded to your hand and has some weight to it...I will admit you have to get it real close to your lip to talk into it, because it is made to filter out all background noise. (which it does, and does well) Plus, they cost usually about half of what a RK 56 will run.
The RF Limited Xtreme 2018 IMO is the "Cadillac" of CB handheld Microphones...It does everything.
Its a Power Mic, with the ability to also be a NC Mic similar to the Road Devil, but with more fetchers for about the same price.
NC button (on or off)
echo controls
TB controls (provided your radio is equipped with TB)
volume control
very well built
Priced about the same as a RK 56
..."thats my story and I'm sticking to it!"mike5511 Thanks this. -
I didn't know that about the RK56. Too bad. They use to be a #### good mic.
-
Yep. Back in the 70's, early 80's you couldn't beet a RK...They started going down hill once Turner sold out to Telex in (I think) 79...But didn't really hit bottom till recently when Barjan acquired them...
Same thing has happened to Wilson...use to be top-notch, but once Barjan bought it out, now there "Hit and Miss" at best. -
See general lee...im not the only who thinks wilson is crap..
-
Wilson use to make good base-loaded antenna's like the Wilson 1000 and 5000's but their Quality Control dept. now days must not exist because the loading coils have a problem with coming un-yo-yo'ed and shorting out...usually from water getting inside the coils plastic housing.
This is the inside of a Wilson 5000 coil that shorted out from water.

What happens once water gets inside the coil, is some of the screws and connections rust out and break loose then short out and break...
The Sirio 5000 antenna's built in Italy are much better antenna's, and cost around the same price as the Wilsons...
just my opinion, but it's your money, spend it as you see fit...
