This may have been answered already but what are some good things to have with you. I start with Werner Friday and I'm trying to get a list of stuff that is nice to have when I get my assigned truck. I know an electric cooler/mini fridge and a power inverter are great to have.

Get a BIG box. So it will be easy to clean out after you have had enough of those Werner rats

I have about 7 cell phone chargers. Never want to be without a cell phone on the road. Sirus xm radio. Also life saver. Travel light at first is a good idea. Tend to jump seats alot from everyone I talk to. Just my 2 cents.

how about a drivers manual, so you can learn to drive a little better before you start worrying about all the creature comforts.

Once you get your truck, you'll at least want a small thermo-electric cooler, and a small TV and slim style TV antenna for those down times waiting. Hopefully reading is something you enjoy and then obviously books are good to have and are relatively inexpensive means of spending idle time. A basic cobra 29 CB radio. XM is really nice to have for truckers if you don't mind the $11 or so monthly subscription and up-front costs. I also recommend as much of a GPS (trucker version) as you can afford, when you can afford it. I prefer Garmin. Don't use them for navigation so much as for reference and for confirmation and they'll be a real asset. A laminated road atlas.

If you have family you want to stay in contact with, a Verizon or ATT smartphone/plan that can serve as a hotspot for a laptop is good for email, facebook, video calls, etc, if/when you can afford them.

Start small and frugal until you're sure the job is for you and you're going to stick around before investing in some of the larger ticket items if money is a real issue for you.

a girlfriend with an air-valve on the back of her neck. That's something I always enjoyed during my 10 hr break or even to converse with when the truckers won't talk to you on the cb radio, which is most of the time.

Yeah she wont talk back either.

If you are going out with a trainer just take the necessities as it will be someone else's truck with all their stuff.

Pattyj worked there I think. She can clue you in on certain things.

If your going out with a trainer I would bring a weeks worth of clothes, sleeping bag and pillow. Hand sanitizer and baby wipes. 2 cell phone chargers. Pack of pens. Pack of the single use tooth brushes that already have tooth paste on them in conjunction with a regular toothbrush and toothpaste. Tide pods for laundry. Books or a tablet with ebooks.
