I don't know, maybe because most box, or straight, trucks are driven by lesser trained Class B drivers? Maybe they are lesser trained because they work for cheap people that only want to pay them slightly more than minimum wage, so they have a hard time finding "professionals" for $10/hour??
Maybe the driver just moved from Pakistan, and that's how it's done over there.
What's With The Unprofessional Drivers?? Almost Crashed Today...

Now,I didn't say I agreed with him did I? I know if I hit someone while changing lanes they would hang me from a tall tree and use me for a pinata. But I have tried it with the 4 wheels, and it does work if you wiggle the trailer! Won't work with the 18 wheels though. They just keep you blocked so your stuck out in #2.
-
I am saying you have cleared my front end and I am prepared (aka light footed and ready to break if needed ) that's it I might do it a second time incase you was not looking the first time. The choice to come over is yoursbigtssa and Guitar Man Thank this.
-
Some guys do it then stop, the second time kinda bugs me because at night if your mirrors are properly adjusted you can see the brights (for the dummies) or the lights shut off (that's what thems smart dudes will do) without actually looking at the mirror. But that I can deal with. It's the third time and so on that really get to me lol
At night on a deserted highway there's no hurry to change lanes IMO therefore no point in any of this signaling business, just wait til there's a nice big gap then come back to the granny lane.
In traffic however, having a driver let you know your clear to come over and knowing he's expecting you to swing over with only 20 feet between the trucks can make things much easier when trying to maneuver through traffic. If I see someones trying to move over and nobody is letting him I'll close the gap between me and the cars in front of me (putting myself beside the truck) then ease on the binders and make a hole for him. Signal him over so he hopefully cuts in as soon as I clear him (before some dumb 4wheeler jams himself in there) then I stay on the binders to regain my following distance and everybody happy
.
tsavory Thanks this. -
Hit someone with that move and that same cop will be writing you up for an unsafe lane change.
I'll turn on my signal, but I won't move over until I have the room to do so safely.tsavory, GoneButNotForgotten, Guitar Man and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm with gov on this one I travel around Toronto also and I'm seeing this more and more. 2or3 flashes and then they're coming over hell or high water. That's bs that he was going too fast also. I'm guessing he fishtailed because the lane he went into wasn't plowed /salted as well as the lane he was forced out of. The person making the lane change is supposed to ensure the way is clear before changing lanes. He would have been ticketed if gov had run into him. Been there done that.

Many different comments and I thank those who didn't try to say that I was too blame because of this guys stupid move.... I notice that most who agreed with me are drivers who visit the GTA area and know what it is like... I can't believe that some people responded saying that I wasn't driving for the conditions or that I didn't predict the future... First of all I was driving for the conditions but the "hammer" lane on the 401 is never plowed or travelled as much as the other lanes, therefore it's covered more in snow and ice which is the lane I had to swerve in I always drive for the conditions and I think my squeaky clean record both personal car and trucking will speak for itself... I haul heavy and have NEVER (knock on wood) will I drive faster then conditions allow for because if I crash with 130,000lbs then I will probably die, others as well plus the amount of damages.. I don't take chances in ###### weather, I drive to where I am comfortable... Also for the guy who said why not let off the gas instead of swerving I am not sure if you missed this or not but I said he signalled and came over all in the same motion so if I let of the fuel and coasted then I wouldn't be typing right now because I would be dead into the back of his bumper... Also you CAN'T predict EVERYONE's move believe it or not, you may THINK you can but you really can't... How would I know he was going to come over?? I certainly can't see inside his truck (I in a car and it's dark) to see if his head was looking to the left to check out the lane, also like I said there was no apparent reason to move over nothing at all, and he didn't signal correctly.. So again how am I too predict this ?? You can go driving around predicting everyone is going to be jumping in front of you otherwise you would never pass anyone....
So all in all... This was in no way shape or form my fault nor did it indicate my lack of professional driving... No winter tire (minus studded) is meant to keep you attached to ice... My fish tail was because I had to make a sudden movement on a lane covered a thin layer of ice and some snow... Had I not made the move then I would have crashed into his rear bumper and probably been dead.. Also I never said I was near his front tire, I said I was near the front of his rear tire between his back tire and cab.... I am 100% certain I made the correct moves and this guy was the idiot not driving correctly... If I was driving faster then the conditions then why did I make it 35km (21miles) without any problems??
Driving has become ridiculous in the GTA (and I am sure other areas too) but the 401 is the busiest highway in North America therefore driving here isn't as easy as other areas in North America.. Everyone is a rush to go no where important.. You turn your signal on and very few cars will actually let you over... If you have space and put your signal on and the coast is(was) clear but now the car that was a good distance from you is not beside you because they had a temporary need to accelerate but only until they get beside you then they no longer require that need because now you can't get over.. This is the life in Toronto everyday.... I have honestly counted one time 15 cars (yes I did say 15) that didn't let me move over when I had my signal on.. Thankfully #16 let me over.... Sometimes you have to force your way over but in a safe manner because if you don't you'll never get over... but notice I said a safe way this doesn't include slamming yourself over right away... What this guy did to me what totally uncalled for....Ed G Thanks this. -
I think you're being a little melodramatic here, you mention dying, losing your life, being dead etc no less than 6 times in your 2 posts. If you posted to vent then fine, but if you drive the GTA as much as you say you do and it's as bad as you say it is then I think that you'd be a little more suspect of all the bad drivers as you call them. I mean if any one that runs in around the Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth area posted and whined every time someone didn't signal and just about took the front end off their truck there wouldn't be enough space for them all. Get over it, carry on.

don't blame the buy becuase you were going too fast for existing condtions. he had enough room to merge, and he took it. maybe a little too soon. but the, you should have slown down.
i look, if enough room. i signal and merge.
not many look, signal, and look again. if there isn't eough room. in the first place.
your a professional driver. it's your job to think and act like a professional driver. for your safety and others around you.
it's also a must that you realize your surrounded by stupidity. that's comon knowledge. and to anticipate the moves of others around you.
people cut me and the rest of us off all the time. when we're on ice. but WE'RE NOT FISH TAILING. -
Your suppose to have YOUR VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL and the GTA is not as bad as MONTREAL for non signalling lane changers
tsavory Thanks this.
