Good job on the repairs.
But back to the original reason for the thread, low fuel mileage. Can you tell us how the repairs have impacted your fuel mileage?
ved12 465hp very very low mpg

This trip did not checked myself, but the computer this time showed me 6. I believe it is still too low, since i changed also the muffler with donaldson high flow, and changed mudflaps to eco flaps both tractor and trailor. Anybody changed the wheel bearrings with microblue? Interested in the results.

I wouldn't look into any gadgets before to find out what's wrong with the truck. you can spend a fortune for all those "performance" parts and the problem is still there. don't try to cover it, fix it. I would make a list with all the possible reasons of this high fuel consumption. there are a lot of O/O reporting a lot better fuel mileage so, something goes wrong. from grounding to fuel restriction... did you checked your batteries? volvo engine is very sensitive to that. what kind of batteries do you have? are you sure the water separator filter has the micron size specified by volvo? what about the air filter? the wheel bearing with microblue covering are somewhere double in prize then regular ones. I would put the truck on the dyno, after checking all the small things. It's cheaper then microblue.

when the air is cold (frozen) the air is lacking oxygen. what keeps the fire on is the oxygen so you need more fuel to keep the fire on in the burning chamber. besides that, an object going trough cold air has more friction with the air, affecting the aerodynamic job . also, all the moving parts (bearings, gearing pinions, belts and others) have more friction, regarding the density problem. in specially liquids become more dense, so the oil or grease are not doing the job at 100%. It's like you are using, all of a sudden, mineral oil instead of synthetic. So, cold air is not good for your business. I'm hopping, now you have a better idea about winter vs trucking.
If you want to have a better idea of fuel mileage, calculate with pen and paper over one year time period. don't forget to take in account those times when you have problems with the truck and is affecting the consumption.
If the consumption on the dash jumped so high and fast, that means your truck was doing something like 8-8,5 miles to the gallon, I guess. I don't want to offend you, but you should try to improve your driving techniques over the winter season. please, accept my apologize if I offended you but I'm trying to help here. Sometimes, you need a kick in the butt to make one more step further. Sorry!Last edited: Jan 9, 2014
