Hi. First I want to thank for all the great information on this site.
I'm thinking of purchasing a used TMC truck. The truck is a 2007 Pete 387, Cat C15 Acert 475, 13spd, 3.36 rears. The truck is speced to my needs as I will pulling conestoga flats and steps. Truck has roughly 800k miles and asking price is $30k. The truck is clean inside out. Is this a good move and how much life you think I will get before I have to do an overhaul? Most other trucks I have seen look beat to the ground.

2007 is probably one of the worst years for CAT engines. MBN engine code = more bad news. Although fixes have been developed, I think you'd be better off starting with an engine that doesn't need fixing.

The 387 I had with them was a good truck. No real complaints except for the door seals, but that has nothing to do with TMC. Horrendous fuel mileage but I credit turning that poor Cat into a weedeater via restrictions with that. Best I got ever was 5 flat, was usually in the upper 4mpg range.

Grab it if it's nice, but for goodness sake derestrict that poor Cat and let it breathe.

Edit: mine was an 05 BXS.

You're probably right but finding a 6nz or even 2ws in good shape is hard. Those trucks are getting to be over 10 years old which means other problems due to age. Usually the guys that have them and keep them up don't wanna sell them.

A PDI tune and some Donaldson free flow mufflers will make it run like it should from what I have read on this site. I just hope I can a year worth of work out of it before I have to overhaul it. It looks like the 379s with same engine have over 1 million miles on the clock with no overhaul.

TMC should be able to provide the repair / maint history on it to give you an idea of whats been done to it

Go for it, don't abuse it out the gate. Run it from 60-72mph, keep the oil changed and see how she olds up. if she hasn't been on the road in a while, your sure to get a few leaks from the around the gaskets. Double check charge air cooler for leaks, check turbo, radiator, rear-main seal, drive line for movement, have the fluids in the rears checked for proper levels. IF no bad signs go for it.

Purchased my truck and I treated it like this, found a few things wrong after a couple of runs, but nothing I wasn't prepared for. Its a used truck and something is bound to be wrong with it, only way you will know is by driving it. IF you like the truck all the minor things can be fixed, even a engine.

As a side note, TMC is a very big company, they're trucks look good and i cant ever recall seeing one on the side of the road or in a shop at the dealer ship. So based off that knowledge alone tell me they have decent equipment!!
