I had no FH16, my fried have. Yep, good engine but every small part is more expnsive thn any for D12 ore D13. Other problem of FH 16 - weak I-shift. This transmission for D16 is AT2612C - for 2600 NM of torq, for D9/11/13 they sell AT2412, well, ok, weak point of this tranny is splitter. It may drive u crazy when u know that input shaft ruined a half of box inside. Good transmisssion for D16 is Powertronic - but fuel miage is bad!

So for heavy load I'd chose ISX15 650HP with manual transmission, better 18st fuller ore ZF 16st

    I had A Volvo in 86 with a 525 cat a 13 over and 3:70s I liked It .
I don't care for the new Volvo myself I doubt that I would ever buy one unless it came with a cat LOL .

650 is overkill for most usual load unless you carry very heavy load. I used to drive volvo with ISX475 3.58 10sp and I never had an issue 79000 gross.

yeap, wait for a a Volvo with ACERT. It will start 1 out of 10 times during the winter and when is starting turn it off in the next second, half of your profit went trough the exhaust pipe. but don't worry about that. you will be the first in the uphill and the first one who stops for refueling. Trucking is trucking, and a hobby is a hobby. If you like to play around with black smoke you can use a high efficiency truck and after that you can waste your money for smoky toys. I'm not an eccentric billionaire. when I bought a truck, I've started a business, to improve the life of my family. I didn't buy a truck just to have something to play with or a job. Also, I'm still hearing well and I want to keep that as much as I can. If I want to go deaf, there a lot of cheaper solutions then a pile of crap painted yellow. If you want performance into an engine there are plenty of toys, but there is a price for them. For those ones who knows ECMs they know all the "power" of CAT comes from high specs, trading the efficiency. Put economy specs into a CAT ECM and you will crawl down the highway. the funny part is that you will never achieve the fuel consumption of a Volvo. :biggrin_25519:

really I've never seen Volvo Version-2 with CAT engine!

really there is one engine, really good of fuel milage. It is D11C. it is gutless (from 360 to 420 HP), but fuel milage is really good. Volvo use it in FM, Renault Premium (Mack Quantum), and Volvo VN trucks. Engine is not popular, but, IMO, good

Volvo Gen 2 with a Cat engine??? I've never seen that nor a Volvo with a Detroit. Doesn't mean they are not there.

I have an 07 670 Volvo with a Cummins ISX 500. 10 speed 3.42 gears. Truck runs well seeing I bought it used. I've replaced a few items and am chasing air leaks. I think I have 2 left. Mostly leveling valves, leaks in hoses. Anyway.

If I had to make another purchase again and had the money, I'd buy a 780 truck with a 13 speed tranny, and maybe 3.55 gears. Other than that, pretty happy with the truck. Runs well.

Mileage is about 15mpg bob tailing, 10 with an empty Dryvan, and about 6.5 with a full trailer. (Keeping my foot out of the fuel) Self governed at 68mph. I run around 65mph.

I'd do the same truck in a 2014.

3.42s seem to be great for flat roads. 3.55 I think will help with climbing hills like in the North East. (Pennsylvania/Virginia.
