My two cents as I left a great contractor at FedEx Ground to get on with Freight. The main reason I went to Freight was that I needed insurance. But there was better pay and other benefits too. I started in September. In November I was on a bid. It was a bottom board bid, but I still grossed over $1000/wk, home everyday and off on the weekends. During December I took a bid running FedEx Ground stuff for Freight to help them out during peak. When that ended at Christmas I went to the extra board until we just had a bump bid and for those few weeks I've not been under $1300/wk. And this is supposed to be the slow time of the year.
Yes you work the dock on some runs. You drive a forklift and move freight from one trailer to another. You don't really have to fingerprint too much, but there are some odd pieces or freight that tips. But you're getting paid. This is the best pay I've ever had. I've been OTR, Owner Op, delivered gas and ran for other contractors.
Everyone from the office and management to the drivers have been great. Maybe it's just our terminal, but everyone is professional and helpful. Maybe it's just being new, but I have nothing to complain about and for the first time in 17 years feel like I have a company I will retire from.Doylee4693, Jimmy T and Lady K Thank this. -
How long does it usually take for fedex to contact you after you submit your app online ( I submitted an app online to drive for a specific contractor)

Fed Ex Freight is a great place to work period. The key word is TIME VS. MONEY not many places pay you for everything you do at the job. Example your training you usually fly you or you drive to a location they pay you mileage and hourly both ways in your car. This job is not made for the dumb truck drivers that just want to get paid to hold a steering wheel. Fed Ex Freight put you into situations that will challenge you everyday .If your are willing to say yes to everything they ask of you work dock, city, and road and excel you will be fine your check will show it. Certain terminals are hubs and others are satellites a hub operation is 24 hour a day usually have a lot of work. Satellite or end of the road terminals can be jus as busy if your city operation have a lot of city freight to pick up and deliver. Weekend work is optional but can be very lucrative . My advice when coming to work here don't be negative try to make the best of it everyday don't listen to the opinions of everyone else get the facts. I have been with the company 13 years back when it was AF , I have transferred once to another location for a run that pays 105k a year not to get into details because we have people that monitor everything on websites and social media about Fed Ex Freight. So to wrap it up , It's up to you to make it as a place that you will retire from or just another company. Stay safe and keep trucking.
