hi everyone. I'm dave currently 20 years old from chicagoland. i joined to get some great info on trucking. i been google searching topics on trucking and it usually leads me to this site so i firgured i sign up and get more great info from all you guys and girls. (some info on me) i work at a dodge dealership as a apprentice for about 6 months been working for dodge for almost 2 years. i'm ready to leave the auto business. i cant justify having to spend lots of money for tools then get paid crap. currently getting paid 9.25 and have about 6-7k in my tool investment. its bs to have to buy so many tools to get paid crap i rather work at mcdonalds and not have to spend money on tools. even if i become a actual tech you do lots of work for free. overall not a place to make any sorts of money. but i like working on cars for a hobby. i always loved driving but esspecially love anything diesel and big rigs. so i want to see if i can get a chance into trucking. the only thing i really dont like is being away for so long at a time i would love to have a trucking job being home daily or be away max a couple days willing to do work for it though. any feed back would be appreciated, and thanks for looking.
young newbie

Welcome Dave: Well you may get lucky finding a local job for trucking, cause most companies you have to be 21 years old to driver over the road. Have you found a school for the some training? I'd suggest that would be your first step, unless you'd like to wait till your 21 and go with a company that does training. Only thing with that is, you'd be gone for quite some time. Good luck, you got any questions go ahead and ask.

Chicago is loaded with local jobs; it's in major freight lanes running North-South-East-West. If you can afford a community college or private CDL school that's 160 hours, you shouldn't have any problem finding a local or regional job. If you can't afford these schools, then go with Millis Transfer when you're 21 years old.

I was thinking of going to community college for training near by, but if I can find a company that offers training that would be great. And I could wait till I'm going 21. Do you guys know of any companies near Chicago I'm actually in the suburbs so anyways I hear that Con way offers daily home. What do you guys think
