I used to ride this truck onese. Chassis is like on any US ore EU truck with tandem axle, engine - Chenese made Cummins ISL (CRD, no EGR, no DEF), cab is made on base of retired European cabover cabins, like MAN F2000 ore Iveco

They still use the Volvo fl cab, it all depends on the exact model of truck.

I am in Nigeria now. Lots and lots of them on the roads here. The Dangote Group of Nigeria buy several 1000's of these trucks (with the old Volvo FL cab) every year. Others started using as well.

These are low cost simple Chinese trucks.
9.7 litre engine with mechanical fuel pump. Based on old Steyr engine as used in 91 series trucks (also used in Canadian military)
Common rail engines are available as well, but in Africa mechanical is still preferred by many.

for me it is very interesting that steyr in its time was not big player even in austria , but now big part of trucks in world are build on steyrproduction system ,and using steyr/wechai engines

Green engine is Steyr pictured last year in Canada (you can read part of the Steyr name left, above the filter). Engine is used in military truck.
Blue is Howo Sinotruk in one of the Dangote trucks in Nigeria.

I have not seen this typical way of running head bolts between the individual heads on other engines.

in asian and SA countries emission laws are not so strict like in USA and EU, so they keep using old fuel injection systems with mechanical injection pumps. Surelly these Dong Feng, Sino, FAW cant be legal in USA, but for other markets Chinese companies offer engines of emission level, that customer needs. Generally for export they use Cummins CRD series (from small ISF to ISL). Sometimes they use ISM. ISX is not popular in China.

Realy Chinese trucks are like a mix of old retired cabovers from Europe. They can use Mercedes SK cab on chassis with MAN engine... they can see any barriers and limits. Inside cab these trucks are not so comfortable like European precessors, plastic is not so good, cab is noisy.... but IMO, price is low like for used truck.

    baha Thanks this.
