Question for the reefer haulers , son is looking to add a few trailers to his operation and saw that PRIME has a lot of 2008 - 2009 WABASH REEFER TRAILERS Carrier units for sale . What is the general condition of these trailers from the point of view of those that pull them , they are in the PRIME TRAILER # 27800 series .
He has had good luck on buying tractors from PRIME
Primes used wabash reefer trailers

I know Im kinda stickin my nose in here--not w/Prime--but have bought my share of used wagons--
You can get a good deal on fleet used--IF you are careful--the two biggest things to keep in mind--are
How/Where were they used? Some of these wagons could have been in regular fleet use--while others could have been dedicated somewhere--and while one type is lightly used--the other looks the same but was on a shorter shuttle type deal--and has had forklifts in it 3x a day--Also be very careful if it has been used for intermodel--railyards REAL hard on equpment
Sorry to intrudeFLATBED Thanks this. -
Our equipment a in fairly good order, and kept up with fairly well, but expect mismatched tires, quite a few dings and dents from where has rookies ran it into something, and scuffs and a hole or two on the inside where someone came in too hot with a forklift, otherwise should be in decent shape

olhand thanks for the input , have bought a lot of trailers over the years aware of the pros / cons of fleet sales just wanted to know if any of PRIMES reefer guys had or know of major problems with this batch of trailers
'olhand Thanks this. -
You'd need to check the reefers for the model to determine if they're CARB compliant, and do a very good inspection on the tandems. The rookies really beat them up- you'd probably be looking at an alignment on any of them. IMO, they probably received better maintenance than most trailers. If they didn't change the reefer software, it would be Prime's custom software load that is very fuel efficient.
All of those old Wabash's would have been used in fleet service, none of them were used for intermodal.FLATBED Thanks this. -
Thanks IP , he is headed down that way next week to look at a few , we get alignment done on everything we buy new or used , he would be running Eastern Seaboard , Ontario , Quebec Canada only with them .

Someone with more technical knowledge should explain to you about a series of those trailers that have wheel end problems and why we have wheel end monitors installed on those trailers. Something about the bearings are sealed... I don't know for sure, all I know is if the wheel end goes bad the wheel comes off in a spectacular fashion.
for sure it's in the 27 series cause I've got one now with the WEMs (wheel end monitor) installed
company drivers get a $100 if they find a WEM that flashes red. Incentive to check the monitors everyday and catch it before a failure. -
Thanks for the info Chuck , pays to ask in the right place , will pass on the info so it can be asked about at PRIME this coming week .

I believe your right, the bearings are sealed on those trailers, I think most of our trailers with duals have them, haven't seen them on any super singles
