Very basic and to the point background. I had a couple trucks leased to different carriers. I also had my own authority in which I was the only truck running under. I had a few contracts with local shippers that paid pretty good. I bought a business in a different field and decided to sell my trucks other than one and I also sold my contracts to another local owner operator.

My business is doing great but I do not need to be here breathing down the backs of my employees and I really miss the freedom and grabbing gears.

I can not get in with the shipper on runs as the guy I sold too is currently still in there.

My question is with the current market on rates on general flatbed could I make it alright until I got in with another direct shipper? I have been out of the game of load boards for awhile now. Thanks for any helpful info.

Why not lease on with a carrier like TMC for a while untill you find you get back in the game and want to run on your own again

That is exactly what I was thinking.....Since the other business is doing well, then you don't have to be as aggressive. Lease on, build some relationships, and when the time is right----JUMP

I was talking with a friend of mine L/P for PGT, trucking for more than 20 years, year and half with PGT, and he said that ain't no other company better. I can hook you up with him and he will explain to you everything. PM me if you're interested.

Yes authority is still up to date its just I no longer have that shipper. I am working on a local shipper but until they let me in I will have to run off the boards.

Just haven't paid any attention to what rates are on the open board and availability. I am no longer out here for the big bucks. Be plenty happy running 50-60,000 miles per year. I am just looking for a hobby and I would love to average $1.80 off the board. Pulling flat.

I would run off the boards while I was working on a direct shipper. It's nothing you haven't done before, and it sounds like with the other business that you can afford to be choosey, no sense going thru the hassle of leasing only to land an account with a direct shipper and bail on the company that you leased to.
