Sorry to say, I have had to pull the plug...

Driver thieves, unscrupulous mechanics, abussive brokers and the price of fuel have called a toll on my business... 7 more trucks parked idefinatelly...

I know that being based in a "stagnant" are didn't help, but when the only loads you can get pay $1.22 a mile for the flatbed truck... Because "some one else will move it"... Guess what someone else is broke... Now I am too... Now they decide to call me everyday to see if I can "please" move the load.... no!!! I can't anymore!!!

When drivers insist in blowing two tires per trip, because they "need to get there fast" and can't find time to check tire pressure... When drivers insist on driving 75 to "make good time" and come home earlier... When drivers insist on spending 5 days home and no more than 6 on the road... When drivers make a 6.3 mpg truck give me only 4.8 mpg...
When drivers can't perform a basic walkaround and you get hit with a $250.00 ticket because they just didn't tell you one light in the trailer wasn't working (nothing more than a fuse)... They just don't understand they are driving themselves out of jobs...

When shops want to charge $70.00 an hour... When they claim to have fixed something and (you) later find out they used 2nd hand parts and/or never acctually fixed it, so now they road thieves (sorry road service) charge you $600.00 to get you going again...

When the weigh station, "tickets" 7 in 10 trucks, because they have a "deal" with the local mechanics (who happen to be available all the time at outrageous prices)

When the insurance company can't wait "one more week" before they shut you down...

I know, I have read this place enough to know that some will say I have no business sense etc... Well, I am not alone... Many more are shutting down...

Tripple hit for me this year... My Mortgage company went belly up (so much for being responsible and never putting people in homes they couldn't afford), my construction company too... and now this...

    It sucks!!!!

Sorry to hear about the run of bad luck. Sounds like you definitely got more than your fair share. I hear you about the drivers and their lack of care and responsibility, too! Been in your shoes and know what you're going through. Hang in there. Remember, when one door closes, another one opens.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I hate that our country isn't paying attention to the small business owners like they should, and doing something. :biggrin_2553:

    ^^ unfortunatelly I can't drive...

Talking to the bank on monday about another half a million to continue... Considering moving my operation elsewhere (currently in Brownsville Texas)... Any suggestions? I have been told Memphis... I have also been told to cut down to 4 trucks... trade my 2001 for 2003's and this should give me less trouble and with higher rates, I should net a little more with 4 trucks (in Mephis) than with 7 trucks in S. Texas...

I have been told also that drivers tend to be more hard working the more I go north...

    What to do?

Sorry to hear that. Any owner can sympathize. It's been a difficult economy to operate in for a while now. Roadmaster is cranking out drivers so fast the big boys don't have to worry about profits. Somebody will always come in cheap with a recruiters promise of big bucks so drivers have the wrong idea about this business.

Sorry to hear that. Truth be told there are many more of us that are only a broken finger nail or a stubbed toe away from being in your shoes.

I hope you are able to figure out how to pull it back up.

Where are you located if you dont mind me asking?

And I cant agree more on even skateboard rates are low!
Specialized trailers / flatbeds - heavy haul divisions even here in Ohio are not doing very well. I've got a friend who was also a flat hauler but was leased to Miller. They went from working him 4 days a week down to 2.

Good $$$, Even now but not enough Miles to pay for a whole week's WAIT.
We've all been their to. Im not much into leasing to a Carrier now days but I will tell you this. My trucks run in the summertime for a 3rd party company that works directly with "ODOT". Thats where the Moneys are for me.

Weather or not the Trucks even RUN they are still making $83.00 Per hour.
If they are on the work list and get dispatched? They may only haul 2 loads per day and roll a total of 100 miles and GROSS $600.00 that day.

I've all ready been on the PHONE with them 5 times this year! I keep asking WHEN, WHEN. WHEN are we going to start working!

For now I've only got my Company leased to a outfit named BEEMAC Trucking located in Ambridge,Pa. So far they have also been good to me!

The freight is NOT the best rate but it is keeping us afloat. I've also got my own customers who I do business with that pay better freight rates and right now they are paying " 33.9% " FSC to the trucks. And that is a god sent!

    bame ,
We all FEEL your pain and are angry at the situation that's drove you to your choice. It pisses us all off to hear you " HAD " to hang up the keys!
We need a break because it's breaking us!!!

I dont know what I can do for you but trust me I'll try! I'll put you in contact with the people in my black book if I have to. Im not a greedy person..... Just goto the website located in my PUBLIC profile here.
On my website overtimetruckers you can find my contact information on the SUPPORT page.

I'll try helping out anybody if I can. The mess we are " ALL " is SUCKS!
I think the Government should just RESCUE US like he did the dam BANKS!

    Enough said....
    All the best,
    Matthew
