My husband started driving truck in Dec. of '04, driving for Transport America until Nov. '08. Our daughters were not happy with daddy being gone all the time, so he switched to working local jobs. For the past 4 years, he's been driving a water truck for the local gas industry here in PA. Money is better, but he has more stress than ever, so he's thinking about going back OTR. The kids and I love having him home every night, but we would rather him be happy, and if that's going back OTR, then we will manage. So now we're just doing our research, figuring out how much less per year we will make, and what company he would get the most miles/pay from.
Looking to go back OTR

He could do real well with tanker/hazmat, but he will need TWIC also. Google for the nearest TWIC office. There's a few flatbed companies that have good annual pay also.
Superior Carriers
Schneider Bulk
Melton Truck Lines
Maverick
Holland Enterprises
System Transport
Most tanker companies he will make anywere from $55K - $65K. Check Careerjet, Indeed websites. Stay away from the refrigerated starter companies that recruit heavily from CDL schools. -
I can't imagine OTR being less stressful than what he is doing now.

He says it has its own stresses for sure, but OTR was just a lot less stress than hauling water. It was just him and the road, where now he has so many people to answer to and telling him what to do, where to go, yadda yadda.
