The other day I was browsing through different posts and it called my attention that some drivers concurred that "Truck GPS'" were too expensive and some mentioned the $300+ price range.

Just figured it would be helpful to share my 2¢ on the matter and mention this specific one I purchased a couple of months ago and so far has been working just fine for me.

I am currently living in the NYC area and without this little guy I would've probably ended up arrested by now with all the non-truck-friendly parkways and routes around here.

Anyways, this link is the one I purchased from on Ebay. As usual, make sure you read the description and it won't hurt to message the seller to confirm the details of their product and of course to make sure it is indeed a Truck-route-loaded gps.

It also comes with lifetime traffic update.

My mistake. Mine is a Garmin Nüvi 465LM Truck GPS. But price is same. Just need to type this info on ebay and it will show the new ones. Look for the Manufacturer Refurbished

I own this model. It drives me nuts, but I have never tried other truck specific gps so I don't know....maybe they are all this bad. The big problems:
    1. I like to browse through the route it has chosen and compare it to the map. You can't do that with this thing because it gives you the route by the local road name. Maps always give you the road NUMBER. So it is telling you to turn right on Old Pump Road and its not til you get there that you find it is state road 28.
    2. It's worthless in NYC because it tells you you can't drive on the Cross Bronx OR the Long Island Expressway.
    3. It is so biased toward interstates that it will ignore perfectly good state road options that will will be shorter in miles AND in time.
    4. When you search for POIs, like a truck stop, it gives you all of them in all directions. I really don't want to know what it 20 miles behind me. My car Tomtom lets you choose whether you want all POIs, those along your chosen route, or those near your destination.
    5. It makes scads of just dumbheaded mistakes including routing you onto roads that are clearly marked as prohibited to trucks, or suddenly telling you the road ahead does not permit trucks and you get there and find there is absolutely no problem.

If I could find a gps that is clearly better I would gladly spend the extra bucks.

I've used car models of Garmin before, I personally do not like them. I have a Rand Mcnally 720 and I enjoy it quite a bit.

I have the garmin 560 and it sucks, it doesn't want me on truck routes east of the GW EITHER, it doesn't want me on I 80 in most of Nebraska either. When I get on a side road to my customer, it says I'm not allowed and it's a bear to clear out the warnings so I can see where my street is.

I thought exactly that when I bought the Nüvi 465LM and even thought if returning it until one day, bored as hell decided to start messing with it so I'll tell you this.

    1. You do can browse the map and compare it to the route it wants you to go. You can even scroll with your finger and move along the route as you please to figure out the most convenient way.

How to do this: When you finish inputting the address and all that it goes to the navigation window, TAP into the middle of the screen. It will even give you the option to zoom in and out. And as an extra you can tap on top of the street line and it will tell you the street name as well as the option to pick a point on the map and go to that pin-point address.

    2. TAP on:
    -Menu
    -Tools
    -Settings
    -Navigation
    -Avoidances

Here you will be able to Uncheck or Check (select) avoidances in the route such as: -U Turns -Highways -Toll Roads -Traffic -Ferries -Carpool Lanes and -Unpaved Roads

The fact that is making you avoid the Cross Bronx and the LIE tells me it must be set to certain avoidances from the ones mentioned.

Also in this menu it lets you pick from Route Preference as if you want to go the "Shorter Distance" or the "Faster Time" and also you can set to let you know of Sharp Curves when they are coming.

    3. This one I'll tell you its true. For the most part it doesn't hurt me to check the route its wanting me to go before I let go of the brake and be on my way.

    4. POI's I've never really have checked in detail but I know it mainly shows the big Shops. Not many mom and pop's shops in that category.

    5. Make sure you set your "Truck Profile" properly under "Tools - Settings - Truck Profile" in regards of:
    -Truck Width
    -Truck Height
    -Overall Lenght
    -Hazardous Material (if applicable)
    -Gross Weight
    -Max Weight per axle
    And -Number of trailers

I understand this sounds like a ####Load of things to do and set, but this should not take more than 15 mins if you follow these steps.

Some streets in the route will say "No trucks allowed" over certain weight and this is why I insist in setting your GPS properly.

Spending unnecessary money is something I never do and don't have a problem with others doing as long as that money ain't coming out of my pockets.

Ps. I take the LIE and go through the Cross Bronx at least twice a week with my GPS guiding me through it. I am currently a tow truck driver and use this thing on a daily basis.

What I do when I know am gonna have to go against the warning if i have to access into prohibited roads, I check the route first and cancel the navigation so I don't get distracted with the much annoying warnings.

    tucker Thanks this.
