What's wrong with you? You missed a once in a lifetime opportunity to sign on with a world class carrier! Just seeing their shiny red trucks, brand new reefers, and the "global transportation" logos on the trailer you'd think I was being serious.

Everyone who recruited my school seems caught in scandal or gets the negative reviews. Share the news if you find the good company. Not easy decision.

A driver friend if mine has been driving for 16 yrs and just left a job paying .27cpm and less than a week later we helped him find a job paying .38cpm. He says he's never had a job paying that much. Plus the company will allow him to pretty much go where he wants locally during his home time in his truck. He's one of the type of drivers whose home is his truck.

I couldnt live in a truck.... Even if it's the volvo I had with my returning company... Getting home every other weekend, and a night at home on the weekends in between is good enough for me... I went to prime inc. For a while thinking I'd be doing OTR with that same arrangement.... Wrong!!! I accepted the fact that I would be in one of their "lightweight" coffin sleeper trucks.... But staying out 3 weeks to run a very small area and not be allowed to be home during that time, for 1500 miles a week? I decided " no way Jose" and went back to hat was working before... And there was no way in blue hell I will EVER lease purchase from any company... Uh uuuuhhhh! Lol

@UrPistol - You sound just like me, 10 years ago. Much success! I don't know if you have time to read the Thread I put up, that just came back to life on this Forum recently, -- yes, under 'Report A Bad Trucking Company Here" -- The title is: "Major Carrier (Can't Name Co.) - New CDL Drove Team For Leased O/O; Attempted Murder". Some gal wrote a comment there the other day advising that women drivers get themselves a taser. Now looking back, if I had it to do over again, straight after CDL,I would definitely get my own authority and insurance, and do a lease on my own with Penske or Ryder (but I don't really know - do some shopping around, in other words.) You could get a deal, lower than monthly loan payments and the down payment required if you tried to buy your own rig;and you are not 'on the hook' for big truck repairs in some cases, i.e. if you can prove good, responsible periodic maintenance. First, check out the load boards and see if you can figure out how you can book your own loads, remembering to check the credit and financial records of companies who would hire you to make deliveries. Sign up for a month and do a real virtual run-through test, as if it was for real, and you were on the road, needing to earn that big monthly payment, buy fuel, cover bills at home, and feed yourself. Also, familiarize yourself with a solid accounting software program, designed for Owner/Operators, hopefully updated for Obamacare (omg). Please, however, never ever sign on to lease through a carrier, as board members on here warn over and over again, that it's the biggest scam going. The real money and security in trucking today is as an Owner/Operator. It takes courage and a learning curve. If you are smart, confident, and energetic, you will leave your fellow graduates, I am sorry to say, in the dust. Those who are trapped in the old paradigm don't have a hope any longer. The Truckers Report has this introductory article I just found, also:http://www.thetruckersreport.com/how-to-decide-if-a-commercial-truck-lease-is-right-for-you/

I have an other post about a lease purchase offer I received BEFORE I even got my license.
The more questions I asked the more ridiculous it got.

    To the other statements:

I had an orientation date set up for a company. I had told them in my little resume that I had attended a discount driving school that only gave me enough instruction to pass the test. I explained to them why, about some experiences I had that I believed were worth at least as much as setting in front of videos for three or four weeks.

An unplanned family situation caused me to reschedule the orientation...oddly, two days after the original date, they called me and said my driving school was not on their list of approved schools. Naturally I asked why did you not notice that before I spent all day scanning and emailing my last three years of work and medical history? The answer, the recruiter is not actually authorized to hire you, the guy started to explain they couldn't pay for the hotel...I cut him off and pointed out I was not actually there...and he says "Oh, well them I'll call you next week and let you know." I wonder if he thought I was going to show up for the 2nd appointment?

Yes I knew the discount school would present some challenges, but I am surprised at the attitude of these recruiters. I even had one , their firm name starts with an "S", tell me that's Ok, you can use your tuition reimbursement to pay our school for the non driving part.

I may never get a driving job. Maybe I should apply as a recruiter?.

Heads up boys....this is the information age ,they try to hide knowledge from us ,they hate being exposed for what they are doing ....tactics like degrading a driving force ....keeping you broke ....making you feel helpless....making you feel worthless....um is any of this ringing a bell?....we need to have DAC reports on these companies ....yes but also know this there are some big players behind the scenes of these corporations in other words ,these very same big players may own as much as 10 or 15 trucking companies at a time ....we need to harness the power of unity....yes but there's an old saying in this industry it goes like this "we can't unite because we can't keep the hogs out of the feeding troft"....we need to push hard to have frght regulated...yes but we don't have the political power to do so that takes money....so do this ...be informed ,have a good additude,be dumb as fox at times, have integrity, put on a thick skin, don't be fooled into thinking you have no value, and remember this most of all ...WITHOUT DRIVERS THEY DON'T HAVE A JOB
