What is the longest amount of time that an over the road, (OTR), truck driver can LEGALLY stay out on the road before being required to take vacation time?

This question would be the EXACT OPPOSITE of a truck driver who wants as much home time as possible.

This particular OTR driver is more than willing to go Canada, along with any and all locations throughout the 48 states, including areas as New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, the desert, the most treacherous mountains, the northeast, and all the LEAST favorable areas of the country that the average OTR truck driver chooses NOT to go to.

This particular OTR driver is more than willing to drive dry vans, reefers, flatbeds, tankers, HAZMAT, aong with any other types of freight that is perfectly LEGAL.

This particular OTR driver is willing to load, unload, and fingerprint any and all pieces of freight as requested and/or required.

This is assuming that the driver is LEGALLY adhering to all federal HOS rules, maintaining all logs properly, doing all pretrip and post trip inspections, and getting all loads delivered and picked up on time to the best of his or her ability, and otherwise doing all else that is required.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Forever. There is no rule how long a driver can stay out from home. As long as you stay within the HOS rules. Some drivers live in the truck and only have a PO box.

I remember a driver a few years ago that practically lived in his truck; he ran back to back coast to coast and died prematurely. Problem was he had two wives and both had children by him; no one knew until they both applied for insurance and social security benefits for the children.Yep, he had two complete families; one on each coast. Probably not the first time that's happened.

As others posted; many drivers live in the truck and many have no close family or friends and prefer that lifestyle.

You might be surprised to how many drivers live in their truck and have no home.
Alot of bigger carriers actually support guys doing this by providing address and mail service at the carrier.

And I'm not sure why the impression that a person needs a home to be sane or not die prematurely.

If I losed my family I'd probably do the same.

Some of these guys do have families, and it is the family who encourage them to 'stay away from home'.
