All the scary stories I've heard and read just re-affirm my decision- did CDL course while on active duty with my Tuition assistance money and went straight into O/O. Started running a 3-car with a dually, now I gotta cab over pulling a 7-car. One day hopefully I'll have a nice tractor with a/c, but what I could afford makes $$$ so that's all that matters. I've found that good credit, the willingness to work hard and not damage cargo, and most importantly a loose leaf log book, will earn success!

Drivers need to act professional before demanding that they be respected and treated like a professional. For example, peeing between the tires at the truck stop, not showering often, having a filthy truck in side or out, and wearing torn up unprofessional cloths into a shipper or a consignee is part of the reason truck drivers aren't respected.
SemperFiServices and RubberDown Thank this. -
I'd have to say having horrible English skills trumps a lot of pluses. Also please stop spreading the myth of the dirty truck, if a company wants their truck clean, they'll clean it themselves. I'm not going to spend my time and money to wash their equipment.

I think he was mainly referring to the inside of the truck. That part is on you.
-
If you are refering to oral communication skills I would agree totally, there are too many drivers today that can barely speak English, but to be able to reduce proper English to a written esay is not a requirement of beig a professional truck driver. Being able to carry on a conversation with out cursing and being a big mouth boasting person is high on my list.

I take both. I have a hard time taking someone serious if they write worse than a 5 year old on a roller coaster. I understand that Winnie-the-Pooh writes like that, but a 40 year old should have better writing skills than a stuffed bear.

He wrote, "having a filthy truck in side or out" So I just went with it.
-
Obviously I meant inside and out. My point is that you can't demand to be treated like a professional and be living like a dirty pig at the same time.
-
