Hello! (-: New to this forum and generally new to the truck driving world...Im a spouse of a driver. He started in August. Was a semi mechanic but wanted to drive. I was wondering about fines??? My hubby was fined 1000 dollars his first month because he drove home after his dispatch told him to have a great weekend at home and talk to him on Monday....Undisputable...Cost us 200 dollars a week until paid. Ughhhh.....Wasnt even informed we would be getting docked!! Ok, over that one but now he is being fined AGAIN for being rear ended by a texting driver in Florida!! He was not at fault!!!! So far they are just taking 25 a week but does anyone know how much your first accident is?? We were never told anything once again. I know that sounds crazy buy sadly, its true. Please help!! :biggrin_25516:

    More details, please.
Under what charge was he fined for, in either case?
    Or, both cases.

It sounds like he might be in with a shady company.

Read his company handbook. Every company I've worked for has one and they make you sign it and they take the signature page. That means you must abide by the handbook.

Now that said look in the handbook and see if it says anything about a driver must pay fines and damages. He might of agreed and doesn't even know it.

If there is nothing signed then it is illegal for the company to deduct that money from his check. You could file a complaint with the DOL. Also they can't threaten him to signing a promissory note or similar after the fact. Sign this or get fired type deal.

Charged him 2 dollars a mile and he had the e-mail proving she told him to go home...NOTHING was done! He had a meeting after the accident, was put on 6 months probation for being rear ended and wasnt told anything about a fine once again. They just started deducting??? He doesnt know. His dispatch doesnt return e-mails or phone calls. Should he contact someone else??

Charged him 2 dollars a mile after he provided the email saying have a great weekend at home....she never routed him home on the computer before that. Just told him to have a good one and "Alas" that's how they determined he was at fault. Now, she routes him home instead of "Taking his rig of the radar"

The fine should go to the DM, not him.

He should find another company to work for.

look into the companies Dot score on the FMCSA website

something tells me they are faulting the driver because they are trying to avoid an audit
