Apparently since I have been off the road more than 3 years I have to take a refresher course. Which I guess is understandable. I was only on the road for 8 months. I was told at the trucking school the 50 hour refresher course is $1,000 and Schneider and Swift are the only 2 that would take me on with the 50 hour refresher course. I also called Schneider and asked about if they would take me with my experience I had and they are the ones that told me I needed at least a 40 hour refresher course for them to take me.
I could however, spend $3000 and go through the whole 3 weeks again and he said anyone who takes a new driver would take me. I already have a plan though. J.B. Hunt called me about my application with them and said I needed minimum recent 3 months experience or 1 year experience in the last 5 years. He said that if I can get someone to take me on and get 3 months he could get me on. My main goal is to get with Schneider for 3 months an bolt over to J.B. Hunt if they have and DCS routs or intermodal.
Sooooooooooo.............Guess I will be probably headed back to the trucking industry soon. Just scares me a little. I drove with Roehl last time and I had to fight everyday just to get 1,500 a week. Last time I was single and had no bills and now I have a family with a mortgage and all. But Schneider told me that if they can verify with Roehl the 8 months I was with them I could start off at .33cpm. They also said I would not have to go on with a trainer if I did the driving test and all well.
I would really like to go flatbed but do not want to get on the road for 4+ weeks with a trainer again. I really wanted to go to TMC but after I found out about having to go through the entire trucking school all over again I will just stick with the dry van I guess and try to get on with J.B. Hunt unless I can get a good dedicated with Schneider.
I really do just miss driving though. I feel like I just keep mentally getting pulled towards it.
Any Thoughts
Off the road since May 2009 now going back

well, McElroy just called me the second I posted this and told me the same thing. I could get on with them with a 50 hour refresher course.
-
Sounds like a good plan, sni for three months then jb. I think western has free refresher but cpm probably lower. Good luck
-
HMMMMMMMMMMM...............Well, obviously the trucking school lied. I just talked to TMC and they said they would take me with a refresher course. Of course they are just trying to get an extra $2000.
Also, Sorry guys. This really did start out as a Schneider post in my head but kinda drifted from being just Schneider. -
How much did you drive before you left trucking?
-
Thanks, I would call and ask them about it, but I'm sure you know or heard of the trucking companies schools training and firing so they can send you a bill. lol. Not me.
I'm sure they are not all that way but I don't want to find out.
I see it says you are a 1 year trucker. Hows it going for you? Who did you go with? -
8 months. I was bringing home $350-$375 a week so I just quit to go back to school. After going to college for a year found out that I really didn't like anything they had to offer. Don't want to be an engineer or anything. So I got a 8 - 430 job. I got tired of fighting Roehl for miles and being looked at like the bad guy. I love driving though. Just nervous about going back because of that. But I know there is no perfect company. I did love the Roehl training though. Had some great trainers.

I went to Roehl too, left for same reason. Had low miles all to often. Now local 5 days a week , still poor pay. Thinking about intermodel for sni.

I called TMC and they said they would take me with a refresher. I might just go there and then try to get on with Jordan after I got my time.
