Question for anyone using "people net " elogs

    and if your doing a split you must be listed on sleeper for 8 I messed that one up once I had done a 2 hr then went to the house to do the 8 was off for 8.5 and well dang thing would not give me my time since I had not been Listed as sleeper.
    The system is pretty smart watch the clock on it will tell you how much time is left when on duty or driving or how long you have been off or in the sleeper. it even asks if your sure you want to log back in if your close to the 2hr mark for a split

    if you are ever wondering what its really saying you have left and your off just do a view log and scroll though it give you all the info you need and updates to the min.

    I reviewed mine log violations the other day I had a few by seconds its annoying. Can't wait for the thing to go down again. never seen a 3 second log violation in a paper log LOL

    I had heard some at my company complaining about that I never had it happen but mine is not hooked to the ECM so I can drive all day long off duty LOL

    If you are worried about whether or not a 10 hour break or split took just watch your remaining driving/ 14 hour time. Once the break is complete you'll see those shoot up letting you know you are good to go. Same goes for a 34 hour reset if you are really watching your start times.

    Thanks everyone. I understand it better, decide what you want to do and don't change it because you can't go backwards... There should be a 3rd question since I can't get a answer from the IT guy at terminal and that is since mine is hooked to the ECM ... Say I get to the shipper / receiver just barely in time. OR back to the yard for fuel, dropping a trailer etc. Can I go off duty and move around enough or as soon as I let the clutch out the clock kicks you back to driving. When the truck moves I get the "quick view dash" so I don't know if that is changing on my logs too. Thanks again as always

    I think even with the 10 hour break you need to show 8 consecutive hours marked sleeper

    as far as moving a short distance that's a setting your company has programmed and they should be able to tell you if there's any movement allowed

    the IT guy may have then answers but won't tell you as it would be instruction from the company and open a can of worms

    On my computer if you move the truck in off duty it will not go back to driving until I reach a certain point of driving ( a mile I think). After that it asks if you want to change to driving and it has change ok or skip. If you push skip it will stay in off duty til I manually change it.

    No. The 10-hour rest can be all off-duty, all sleeper berth or any combination thereof.

    Nope. Regs state that the 10 hour break must be one of three things: 10 hours of consecutive off duty time, 10 hours of consecutive sleeper time, or any combination of off-duty and sleeper time as long as the total is 10 hours consecutive.

    This from the regs here.

    As to OPs other question most of the EOBRs that I have seen or heard of give you so much time or distance that you can move before going to driving from off-duty automatically. The Peoplenet one I used with my last company it was like 3 miles or so then it would pop up a dialog warning of the change and asked if you wanted to ignore it, change to driving, or manually edit the log.

    I think one of the differences in "People Net" elogs and "Quallcom" elogs is that if you want to edit, Quallcom allows you to split your duty period whereas peoplenet doesn't. I mean if you go over your 10 hrs (say 11 for example) and now you want to edit showing 10:45 in off duty and another 00:15 for a PTI, Quallcom will allow it, whereas peoplenet will change the entire block of 11 hrs. Editing in driving time is only permitted to be done by your safety / Compliance department in both systems. Also Peoplenet has very little memory compared to Quallcom. Always make sure to delete messages in your inbox/sent items if you are using Peoplenet. That is one of the reasons for frequent crashes in peoplenet system. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am writing these comments based on my personal experience and have no technical expertise on the matter.

    Auto Change of Duty Status settings are determined by your company. Default setting is .7 miles that kind of sucks. FMCSA recommendations are 2 miles, most company do a bit more.

    We used to allow the skip option until several drivers abused this option, then we turned it off. Driving while on off duty, if not for personal reasons, is just log falsification.

    As someone stated earlier it does record by the second, however it displays by the minute. So be careful on your breaks if you make them exactly 30, 2, 8, or 10 you may end up in violation by just a few seconds. This is a fairly major flaw in the system, best way to prevent this is to allow everything to go 1 minute over, you wont end up with those problems.

    Another thing to watch for, is if you're going to take your break and know that you have 3 miles before the ACDS don't leave 3 minutes early. Once you break your geofence it will record your drive time back to the time you started moving. I've had several people at People Net tell me it doesn't work like this, but I'll tell you that it in fact does work like that.

    There are several ways to manipulate your logs so you can drive without it showing driving. Most all of them record blatantly obvious. You may get some gains out of it, even in the long run. But you're setting yourself up for a potential problem at some point in time.
