True, you are basically setting way points (via). Any GPS looks at the map data that is stored on its internal maps and based upon your settings it will try to determine a truck legal route. Will this be the route you want? Maybe/Maybe not. It only sees what is in the map data and based upon what is on those segments of map data, it then has to calculate a route.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hello,
I am looking at purchasing a new 720. I want to get the latest version, so should I order from Rand, Amazon, or just get it at the truckstop using my points to help offset the cost? The 710 finally died usb crapped out and is out of warranty. Is Rand McNally coming out with a new version this year?(730 or maybe even an 800 series).
    Thanks,
    Doc

I bought my TND 720 from Pilot and paid 79.00 I had enough points to only pay that amount.

When you get the unit, immediately register and update the unit.

As for the 730, I asked that question about 6 weeks ago, and I got not response from them. I have 2 720s. I bought the 2nd one because I had to send my first one in because it would not charge.

They send me a new unit back in less than 1 week.

i have a 710 (710-033625-EL-11W39) it glitched and had an error message that navi.exe or some similar was not responding or something, then after several minutes it came up with "cannot start the main navigation engine! please try again" and remained frozen till it died.

then i docked it and attempted the diagnostic repair and it started freezing up my laptop and said estimated time to complete the diag was 20 hours and only going up, got to file 97 or so.

It continued to freeze up a dozen times,

then its working for a bit then says it encountered a critical error and must restart. it sometimes will start and run normal like, then glitches as mentioned --sometimes only re-starting the unit but sometimes it has to go dead and be restarted several times.

I am a little afraid of putting it back in the dock... what is the likely cause and remedy? i reset it numerous times, getting the loading wince screen then the same issues preventing loading... i bought it new from a truck stop as i remember but don't have a receipt documentation or box... is this common?

    Thanks

Be patient. Mark will be along to answer I promise. Probably a corrupt file. He will give you instructions on how to delete it if thats the case.

Mark my TND 500 is just not what it used to be before the last update.:biggrin_25512: I have lost so many small streets that were very beneficial to have hauling a flatbed. I picked up a load of pipe Friday in Stephenville Texas to deliver in Odessa Texas. The TND 500 was wanting to take me the longest way possible it seemed. I was less than 20 miles from I 20 which is the quickest, best and fastest route for a 18 wheeler. I put in my destination address and it kept wanting me to go down all the farm to market roads that have stop lights and speed reductions to 35 mph about every 15 miles or so.:biggrin_2551: I don't really need a gps to get to where I'm going but I like knowing the time left and mileage to get there. In my route settings I have it set on fastest route but it will always try take you the longest and slowest way there. If there is no fix for it do the newer Rand Mcnally's have the same mapping system?

    Cannot comment on future products.

It would be up to you to purchase where you feel most comfortable.

    Thanks,

I could send you an OS to reflash the firmware. Once that is done you can run the updater cards that I will send to put the software back on.

    E-Mail me at rmleadbetatester@gmail.com

    Thanks,
    Mark

PS... sorry I did not get back to you sooner.... been working on getting all my tax stuff together the last 3-4 days...

Sounds like you had it in Allow Freeways under Preferences/routing. Change to Prefer Freeways.

On the map screen, make sure you are not in 3D mode. This is on the bottom row, to the right of the big bar, compass, click on this.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Called Rand Mcnally because after looking at my map version which was a over a year old. The TND 500 came with lifetime map updates and somehow they said it did not get registered correctly. They fixed the issue with the registration and today I updated it to the current map. On the freeway selection before it did not have the prefer selection and with the new update it now does and I checked it. Going to test it today again. I think the update fixed my issues. Thanks for the help Mark.
