    I understand what you are saying, and I dont believe I should be paid for nothing. I would rather be on the road earning my pay. I just cant afford a surprize week with no money. The company says they pay breakdown. They never say they only pay it when they want to. I imagine its in the fine print somewhere, but that doesnt make it ok in my book. The whole thing could have been handled better. I know I wont miss working for such a giant company.

    Unions can be handy, to a point. When the interests of the Union and the individual worker diverge the Union tends to look after itself and leaves the worker twisting in the breeze.

    Where I in the OP's position I would have pushed to be put in a loaner for the two weeks. If they balked I would offer to clean out the truck and leave it at the dealer, and the company could take it's time getting repairs done and a new driver in the truck. Sitting for a day at home because of a breakdown is one thing, a week another.

    If he was union he would have to give them his $8 he made for the week and have to come up with the difference for his union dues.

    Had either the company or I known how long the repairs would take I wouldve either asked for a loaner or to call it quits. "Should be another day or so" turns into a week before you know it. And by now Im worried about saying Ill just clean out the truck because I dont want to get hit with an abandonment. Its a 4 hr round trip to get the truck back to where they want it. Its just not worth getting such a mark on my record over half a days work.

    By the way, the truck still isnt done...

    ....it would'nt matter if he were in 'po dock holla'...they still would not have paid him for 'breakdown'....these companies are openly abusing the drivers...simply because they can and they are getting away with it; period. Sorry you had to go thruogh that fester69.

    Breakdown pay is up to dbl. Being at home has nothing to do with it. you giving a 2 week notice is why your not getting it.No need to give 2 week notice while driving otr.

    No disrespect meant, but you sound like you work in an office for one of the Salt Lake City mega trucking outfits. "Screw the driver any way we can."

    sounds like? Have you searched Scythes posts?

    Reality check, this company is out for as many dollars as it can get. Driver is largely just meat in the seat HHG? on a dedicated run? Betcha the customer is paying for door to door. Idle time... cheap way they handle some repairs, I could go on.

    Could realistically put this thread in any of the majors and some smaller companies forums and it rings true.

    Whats right and whats real are very rarely the same thing.
